Caroline
Going out and watching Luke play almost every night is starting to catch up with me. I stumble into bed after one or two in the morning, I'm drinking way too much and falling asleep in class. My last two papers have been rushed and it's starting to show in my grades. Next week is spring break and I know Luke is wanting me to go with him to the shows they've got lined up in Georgia and in Florida but I need to get caught up on everything I've been missing.
I walk into the library looking for an empty table but the room is packed. Another good thing about staying on campus during spring break is I'll probably have the whole place to myself. I see Mike, a guy from one of my classes, sitting at a table alone and walk over.
"Do you mind?" I ask pointing at the empty chair across from him.
He looks up from the book he's reading, "Hey Caroline, of course not. Sit."
"Thanks. It's pretty busy in here today."
"It's been like this for a few weeks. I don't see you in here too much."
"Yeah that's the problem. I've been spending too much time partying when I should be in here studying."
"If you need help on anything I'm always around."
"Thanks Mike, I appreciate that and I feel like I will for sure be taking advantage of that offer." I say with a laugh.
"I hope you do." He says smiling.
I don't even know how long I've been sitting in the library, I look up and just about everyone is gone. I reach into my bag pulling out my phone. Good it's barely five o'clock. I'm meeting Luke at eight at his place for dinner before his show tonight. I have some time to relax a little before I have to get ready. Back in my room I grab one of the books from my nightstand and lay down to read. I keep reading the same paragraph over and over, I'm so tired.
The door slamming shut wakes me up, sitting up I see Jen rummaging thru her closet. What time is it? I reach over and grab my phone off the charger. Dang it! It's midnight. I've got three missed calls and a couple texts from Luke.
*Hey city girl.
Dinners gettin' cold**Where are you?
Call me**We gotta leave for the show.
Guess I'll see you there*I get out of bed and go into the hall to call Luke.
"Hey" Luke picks up on the first ring.
"Hey I'm sorry about dinner and the show. I was at the library studying and I came back to my room and must've passed out. How was it?"
"Fine, it was good." He sounds annoyed and drunk.
"Everything ok?" I ask.
"Just a little disappointed that you weren't there tonight."
"Sorry. I've been so tired lately and stressed. My grades are not at all what they should be and I'm barely staying awake in class."
"And I'm to blame for all that or what?"
"No, I didn't say that. Don't put words in my mouth. I enjoy being out watching you play you know that. I just think maybe I need to stay in a little more often." He doesn't say anything for what seems like forever.
