Caroline
I am so damn proud of myself that I've buttoned down and got my stuff together. It's been tough trying to get caught up, I've done every single extra credit assignment I could, I study until my eyes are crossed and I'm the last one to leave the library almost every night. I am finally back where I should've been months ago. I've always been a straight A student but being out here so close to all the music and nightlife of Nashville and Luke and all his shows took over for awhile. It feels good to get back to me feeling like my old self.
Heading into class now we have a pretty big test today but I've had Luke on my mind all morning. He's got a meeting with Kerri about his showcase from a couple weeks ago. I can't call so I send him a quick text before shutting my phone off.
"Just thinking about you.
It'll go great.
Love you!"Finally done with that never ending test, I'm walking out turning my phone back on. Right away it beeps that I've got a voicemail message. It's from Luke. I could barely understand anything he was saying, he was obviously in a bar and pretty drunk. I call him but he doesn't answer. It has to be about his showcase. It must not have gone well. I feel so bad, he wants this more than anything.
I decide to not go to dinner with Michelle and go over to Luke's. I send her a quick text on my way out the door.
*Hey gonna have to cancel on dinner.
Somethings up with Luke**Is he ok?*
*Not sure. He left me a drunk voicemail.
I think its about his showcase**Aww man that sucks.
Go take care of your man.
Call me later**Alright*
I try calling Luke again before I get in the car, still no answer. I get in my car and drive over to his and Carter's apartment.
Carter answers the door. "Hey Caroline."
"Hey. Is Luke here by any chance?"
"Nah, haven't seen him since the meeting earlier."
"What happened? He left me a message and he sounded upset and drunk."
"I was afraid of that. Kerri said all the record companies came back and said they like him but felt like he wasn't ready yet."
"What? That's crazy. You guys sounded great that night."
"They didn't say anything bad about the songs and the performance just that it wasn't time for him right now. He took it pretty hard. I didn't wanna leave him but I had to get to work. When did he call you?"
"About two hours ago. I was in class so my phone was off. I've tried calling but he doesn't answer. You think he's ok?"
"Yeah I wouldn't worry too much. He's probably just sitting around drinking. I'm sure he'll be home soon. I was just heading out but you can wait here if you want."
"Thanks."
Carter leaves so I sit on the couch with my phone in my hand staring at the screen waiting for Luke's picture to pop up. I don't even know how much time passes, I must've called and text him a hundred times. What do I even say to him? This is all he's wanted since he was little and he does it so well. When he's up on a stage singing he's where he belongs. I start getting sleepy so I go and lay down in Luke's bed. I call him one more time and this time his phone is off. Maybe his battery died or he lost his phone. Where is he? I hope he's ok. I fall asleep worrying about my sweet country boy.
