Caroline

I'm sitting in my car outside Jackson's condo. My head is still all over the place. Luke is still texting and I'm just deleting them. I toss my phone onto the passenger seat. I know I should be reading them and I should've let him explain himself. He wouldn't cheat. I know he wouldn't it's just seeing him walk out of my room looking like that, knowing he spent the night in the same room with Jen got me so upset I couldn't think straight. And now I feel stupid for not giving him the chance to talk but at the same time I wish he would stop calling and texting and give me the space I asked for. I need to calm down and the phone going off every few minutes isn't helping. My phone rings again, I pick up without even looking at the screen.

"I told you I needed some time. You want to explain I know that but I just need to calm down and clear my head. Please." I say in one rushed and shaky breath.

"Caroline?" The sound of his voice breaks me. It's James. The tears I've been holding back all morning start to fall. "Are you there?"

"Yeah, I'm here." I say between quiet sobs.

"What's wrong?" he asks his voice full of concern.

"Nothing. How are you? I haven't talked to you in forever. How's Arizona? You used to that 110 degree weather yet?"

"Really, Caroline? The weather. What's going on? Why are you crying? Who did you think was calling?"

"Luke and I are going thru some stuff right now. It's dumb. I thought it was him, sorry."

"What happened?" he asks.

"I don't want to talk about it right now. I want to talk about you. How are you?"

"I'm fine, I'd be a hell of a lot better if I didn't have to hear you upset and crying. Talk to me. Tell me what's going on."

"I really don't want to talk about it James. I'm ok, really." I say quietly.

"Yeah you sound like you're doing great, Boyer." he says sarcastically.

The door to Jackson's condo opens and Michelle comes walking out. I wipe my eyes with the back of my hand and open the car door. "Hey I just got to Michelle's. Can I give you a call later?"

"Sure. You better call me though and when you do I want to know what's going on."

"Ok, I promise."

"It was good to hear your voice even hearing it like that."

"Yours too. It'd be even better to see your face, it's been too long."

"It has. We'll have to do something about that."

"I seem to remember you saying something about being on the first flight out here if I ever needed you." I say chuckling.

"Did I?" James asks, I can hear the smile in his voice. "Mmmhhh...I don't remember that."

I miss my best friend. "I'll give you a call later."

"Alright, later."

"Bye" I say hanging up and getting out of the car.

"Why do you have that goofy ass grin on your face? Did you and Luke make up already?" Michelle asks taking my bag from the backseat and walking with me to the front door.

"It was James."

"Ah that's why the smile. How is our precious little James doing?"

I laugh. "He sounds like he's doing good."

"So what's up with Luke? What happened? You were just a tiny bit vague when you called."

We sit down on the couch and I go into the whole thing. From his meeting with Kerri, him not answering his phone and not coming home all night to me walking up on him coming out of my room this morning. Michelle is pretty dead set on the fact that she believes nothing happened, that Luke would never cheat on me.
