So, at about 1:21am on January 15th, I finished Wild. For the... third time!
First off, I'd like to say a massive thank you for clicking on this book and voting and commenting and adding it to your lists and reviewing it and for all the nice messages I've received
Wild honestly changed my life
It helped me become a better writer and helped me cope with so many things and so many emotions I was feeling for the past five years. Each character is so near and dear to my heart and the fact that people feel a connection to them makes me so happy. They're all little bits of people I know and myself.
Rory is a beautiful combination of my inner monologue and Jess Day from New Girl while Marina is me at age 15 and my best friend growing up and Aaron is both my older brother and younger sister and Andrew is my favorite uncle and the McDowell twins are everything I wish I was and Kirsty is... Kirsty and Cory is just sunshine and a little bit of my junior year chemistry teacher sprinkled in there
I absolutely love everything about these characters I've created and I clearly can't stay away from writing them and their stories
A lot of experiences the characters go through or some of the funny moments are things that have actually happened to me like... the sex talk from chapter 6 and Rory saying "Oi Oi!" whenever she knocks on the twins' doors and the pregame ritual of hitting the doorframe for good luck from chapter 24.
Most of the chapters are very personal to me. They come from a really raw place and to see other people relate to those feelings or have some sort of emotional reaction to them really means the world
I worked so hard on every sentence and it's well, wild, to see this book finished
I'm finally proud of this book and it took a while but, I can say with confidence this is how I want Rory's story to be told
To be honest, y'all really put Miss girl through the ringer in the comments and I hope you learned your lesson not to belittle female characters for normal human emotions because poor Rory was just a confused teenage girl with daddy issues and had legitimate psychological impacts from her dad "leaving" and her mom being a bitch and y'all called her annoying and an idiot and I didn't appreciate that!!!
For those of you who didn't have internalized misogyny and loved Rory through and through, thank you!! She's a realistic character and is very carefully crafted to be as human as possible
Anyways... The sequel, originally titled "Blue" is now titled "Peace" (yes inspired by the taylor swift song) and should be out right now! It takes place only a couple years after the war and is my attempt at showing grief in different forms and how these characters rebuild and fall apart at the same time! Eventually there will be a prequel but probably not for a bit as I plan out the sequel and my other stories!
