I grabbed my newly bought ice skates and headed out the door, knowing Oli was still waiting for me in the driveway. I plopped down in the passenger seat and gave him a smile. “Good morning.”

"Good morning," He grinned, and I could see his breath. We headed to the lake, which was frozen over for winter. He was driving slowly and steady over the icy roads, and it took twice as long to get there. “Are you excited?"

"I guess so," I shrugged happily, hoping I wouldn’t embarrass myself too much. “Are you?"

"I’ve done this a million times," He smiled, pulling into what used to be a grass field. We trudged through the snow and made our way to the lake, putting on our skates as fast as we could. Oli smiled, “Ready?"

I struggled to get up, then walked awkwardly onto the ice, going about 3 feet before wiping out. I sat on the cold ice and crossed my arms stubbornly. Oli laughed and did a spin, “Oh, come on. You’re giving up already?”

I rolled my eyes and reached outward so he’d grabbed my hands and help me up. He tried, but almost pulled my mittens off before I could get up. Once I was finally on my feet, Oli didn’t let go of my hands. He skated backwards and helped me proceed forward.

After a while, I was getting used to it. He smiled, “Can you do it on your own now?”

I nodded and smiled, “I think so.”

He let me go and I kept going, able to skate around and not fall. Trying to show off a little too soon, I tried to turn the corner, not realizing the ice was too thin. It broke and I fell in, getting soaked in ice cold water up to my waist.

"Oh, fuck!" Oli gasped, rushing to my side. He pulled me out and cradled me in his arms. “Are you alright?"

"Just freezing," I shivered.

We went back to the car and he turned up the heat so that the windows fogged up. When it was warm enough, and we could see through the windshield, Oli drove back to his house. He gave me a pair of his pajama pants and a shirt, making hot chocolate as I changed.

I met him back in the living room, where he had lit up the fireplace and put in Beauty and The Beast. We cuddled up on the shag rug with our cocoa and enjoyed the warmth of the fire and the movie.

"Hey," He grinned, “You wanna go skydiving tomorrow?"

I chuckled, “I’m never doing anything outdoors with you again.”

"That’s fine," He said, pulling me tighter and kissing the top of my head, “I’d rather snuggle with you than jump out of a plane with you, anyway."
