I stood on my tip-toes, trying to see the movies on the top shelf. “Funny or scary?” I asked, turning around to look at Devin.

He was so cute, wrapped up in a blanket on the couch. His hair was all messed and and he looked sleepy, cradling a bowl of popcorn in his lap. He yawned, cupping his hand over his mouth and replying, “Scary.”

I plucked Asylum Blackout from the shelf, being the horror flick low enough for me to reach. I put it in the player and ran to the corner of the room, flicking the light switch to the ‘off’ position and joining Devin on the couch.

The movie was awfully boring, and I was starting to fall asleep. Fighting to keep my eyes open, I groaned, “Can I change it?”

"No way," He said, scooping his hand into the popcorn bowl and saying with his mouth full, “It gets better, I promise."

Trying to stay awake, I went into the kitchen and fumbled through the fridge, searching for a red bull and then fishing the ice cream out of the freezer. As I scooped it out of the container and into the bowl, Devin slipped his arms around me and laid his head on my shoulder. “I paused the movie.”

"You didn’t have to," I giggled, feeling his breath on my neck, “I’m not very interested, anyway."

"Just wait a bit longer," He said, kissing my cheek and pulling me back to the living room. “You’re gonna lose your shit."

He was right, too. A bit longer into the movie, I was too scared to fall asleep. The movie wasn’t even scary in a sense, it just really fucked with your mind. A bunch of insane people with no power, and no automatic locking doors? Scary as shit.

Devin must have seen the disturbed look on my face, because he slipped his arm around me just as the movie was almost ending. I leaned into him, wondering how anybody could make such a weird movie. Once it was over, I shuddered, “No more about maniacs, alright?”

"Sure," He laughed, getting up and picking a movie from a shelf I couldn’t have reached. Sitting back next to m, he announced, “I put in Sinister."

I snuggled up to his chest, trying to block out the sounds from this movie. He held me tighter and chuckled, “You don’t like scary movies very much, do you?”

"Eh," I shrugged, jumping at what was going on.

During a part with no scares, I glanced up at Devin, who was smiling at the screen. He really loved these movies. I smiled and took a deep breath, taking in his scent of soap and buttered popcorn.

hen that movie was over, I popped in my favorite, Saw 6. He sighed, “Awe, this one won’t scare you!”

"Nope," I smiled, sitting back down on the couch.

He used my lap as a pillow and I played with his messy hair, enjoying how well this night was going. “Don’t wake me up if I fall asleep,” He told me.

I smiled, tracing patterns on his arm. “I can’t promise you that.”

"Stop it, that tickles!" He laughed, lightly smacking smacking my hand away.

I chuckled, going for his ribs, making him lose it. He jumped up and got me, getting my belly. I laughed uncontrollably, trying to push him away. “Say you love me,” He grinned. “Say you love me, and I’ll stop.”

"I love you.. I love you!" I managed out through laughter.

"I love you too," He replied, kissing my forehead and pulling me back into his lap to watch the rest of the movie.
