So first lets get this straight:
Maria Montgomery: Ruby's mom
Jack Montgomery: Ruby's dad
Phillip Montgomery: Ruby's oldest brother
John Montgomery: Ruby's youngest brother
Dustin Montgomery: Ruby's adopted brother
Ezra Watson: The future but now dead, fiance of Ruby
Kathy's POV: During Ruby's childhood
I walked across the sodden grass, dew soaking into my socks as I walk towards my son's tree house. Dustin was the adopted middle child, and he has always felt left out around his older and younger bothers who mainly get the attention of Jack and I. Jack had built this tree house originally for Phillip but he had been more interested in football to care about the small tree house his father had slaved over for a whole summer. Dustin spent almost all of his time up there. As I made my way up the ladder and into the wooden tree house. The air was hot and thick and Dustin sat cross legged in the middle of the tree house his body and clothes soaked with blood. As I climbed fully into the tree house I noticed that our dog Checkers, was sitting dead in the middle of the puddle of blood that covered the floor of the tree house.
"Dustin, what happened?" Dustin's eyes darted towards me and I noticed that he was clutching a knife in one hand. He released it and dropped in and it hit the wooden floor with a 'thud'.
"As soon as I came up here Checkers looked like he was attacked, maybe by a snake or an bird. I tried to see if he was still breathing, if there was any chance of him living. But he was gone." He said and it sounded as if his testimony was truthful.
"Oh, I'm sorry about that, why don't you get down from here, clean up and I get rid of this mess, let's just keep this between us, alright?" He half smiles and says,
"Thanks mom." he makes his way down the ladder and into the house.
I wasn't upset about how he killed our family pet, Checkers. I was upset about how he lied to me and how he was so good at it...
Months later: Dustin's POV
I sat in a leather chair in front of what I called a 'shrink'. He had zero to no hair on his small sunburnt head and small glasses on his face. My mom wanted me to start seeing a psychiatrist, I'm not sure why. He started to ask me questions.
"Dustin, what's your favorite holiday?" he said in a squeaky voice and he pushed his small glasses up farther onto his small sunburnt face.
I thought for a moment then decided on my answer,
"Halloween." I said simply and flatly.
"And why is that Dustin?"
"Because it's the one day of the year where everyone gets to dress up and pretend to be something they're not. I don't have to hide."
"What exactly do you think you're hiding?"
My true self.
"Nothing." I chuckled and began to lie right through my teeth. "I just quoted a movie." I smiled that devious smile I always used to get me out of an uncomfortable situation.
"You need to take this serious Dustin."
"Fine doc, pick my brain."
"Alright, have you ever tortured or killed any small animals recently?" He asked while furiously scribbling on a piece of paper.
