                            Prologue.

The car drove smoothly down the street, the engine purring softly. Pulling up to the curb, Aria took a deep breath and let it out again. Her bag sat on the passenger seat, gaping open. Reaching over, Aria dug through the contents and pulled out the leather notebook right at the bottom. She ran her fingers over the smooth fabric, beginning to flick through the pages, each one filled with writing. Her notes told her she was right. She swung the car door open and glanced up at the rustic sign above the corner bar.
" The Crossroads..." she contemplated to herself, scoffing at the irony of the name. "Sounds like a good place to start." She finished, locking her car and walking towards the doorway. She swung the door open, instantly coming in contact with a man taller than her and twice as brooding. Without saying a word, Aria pushed past the stranger, only to be stopped by him catching her arm to spin her round.
"A sorry would be appreciated."
He complained, looking straight into her eyes. Aria could only take note of what a pale shade of blue they were against his jet black hair.
"I don't like to do things others expect of me."
She answered him, a false smile plastered to her face. The man rolled his eyes and pulled Aria closer to him.
"I want an apology."
Aria simply smirked at him and after a few moments of silence she burst out with laughter.
"I wouldn't try that again."
She mocked, the words sliding off her tongue, smoothly. She yanked her arm out of his clutch and began to walk away, leaving him stood, mouth wide open, in the doorway.
The bar was almost completely wooden, the walls paneled and the floor made up of old, rough bark. It was a quaint joint, somewhere Aria could see herself revisiting soon.
It was quiet too, she noted, even for a prime time in the evening.
She slid onto a stool at the bar, twirling a piece of hair around her index finger, staring at the bartender. She leant forward, bearing her teeth into a friendly smile. " Can I get a drink?" She asked, a brow quirked. The bartender stood, looking Aria up and then back down again. " I'm sorry, Miss. I'm gonna have to see some form of ID." He replied. Aria let out a sigh. She'd grown tired of being doubted of her age, she'd been of legal drinking age for a long time. Looking directly at the man, she painted on the false smile, once again. " I believe you don't need that." She stated, her eyes glowing blood red.
" Of course."
Aria smiled, thankful that she'd chosen to stop for a 'bite to eat' on the long drive, the blood running through her veins was fresh, enabling her to 'persuade' the human.
A few minutes later, the same stranger she had the encounter with pulled a seat out next to her. She glared to the side of her where he had chosen she to sit.
"Yes."
She asked, the tone not hiding her annoyance , her eyes piercing into his.
" You're feisty and I like that."
He replied, raising a brow and smirking. Aria rolled her eyes, cocking her head to the side.
"I don't mess with little boys."
She replied, taking the bourbon off the bartender and sipping it. It rolled down her throat, burning a numb pain as it went. His face was priceless to her, full of confusion and disappointment of what she guessed was that she wasn't one of the weak girls, easily giving into his charm.
"Now if you'd leave me so I can finish my drink.."
She said dismissively, gesturing for him to leave- she wasn't here to find a new bed-buddy. She watched him get up and lead off to a couple sat across the room. A blonde male, tanned and quite obviously toned, his biceps slightly too big for the shirt he was wearing. The girl across sat with her arm outstretched to him, her hand laying gently on his forearm. Her flawless, ghost-like complexion broke at her cheeks, into a flushed pink. She turned back to her drink and focussed on their conversation.
"Who is she, Beth?"
She knew this was the man she had just spoke to, talking to 'Beth'.
"I don't know."
She almost snapped to him. Aria smirked to herself at Beth's tone, she tipped back the last of her drink back, gulping the remaining liquid and squeezing her eyes shut tight: although this didn't rid the sensation, it made it easier. She leaned forward onto her elbow, cupping her chin in her palm. The same dark skinned bartender returned to his position.
"Are there any Debois' in the residence?"
She asked, getting straight to the reason she was here.
"I can't say I personally know them." He answered. " But the name's familiar." She smiled, pleased with the answer.
"Do you happen to know where I might find them?"
She added, looking to the trio of people blatantly staring her way. He shook his head, obviously not knowing. Aria grunted displeased this time. She pushed herself off the seat, and made her way to the door, set on finding her family.
