Chapter Six

“What do you want with me?” I cried as I awoke once again in the cell. “When my father hears about this he will punish all of you.” I warned.

“Silly child. Don’t you know? Everyone thinks you ran away last night. They are scouring the land for you. It’s too bad they won’t ever find you.” Augustus responded.

“And the guards are they in on this as well?”

                “Of course they are.”

“What do you want from me? Why did you go through all of this just to get me?” I asked.

“Because you’re too smart for your own good. You are the one person who has gotten the closest to finding out my plans and I have worked far too long for it to be spoiled by some girl. Soon the kingdom will come to an end.”

                “Why didn’t you kill me?”

“Because when you killed that lion I realized that maybe you could be of some value to me after all.”

“Why would I want to help you?”

“I never said your aid wouldn’t come without some… shall we say motivation? You can thank me later for the roommate. Boys, bring him in.” he said, motioning his hand towards the cell. Instantly the guards appeared with Marcus in their grips.  They threw him near me before leaving and only Augustus lingered.

“Play nice Aurora.” Augustus warned then he left us alone.

“How are you?” he whispered with sympathetic eyes.  Within a second flat I had him pinned underneath me, my arms restraining his limbs. Normally I wouldn’t have been able to, but I caught him by surprise this time.

“How did you know?” I growled at him. The strange thing was he didn’t try to get out even though he was perfectly capable.

“I thought you might be lonely by yourself in this cell, but I didn’t know you’d want me this much.” he smirked.

“Don’t flatter yourself. “ I scoffed. “Now tell me what I need to know.”

“Whether your questions will be answered depends on what you’re willing to wager.” I stared back at him confused.

“What do you want? Money?” I offered. He laughed.

“Aurora, I want a second chance with you.” This time it was my turn to laugh at how ridiculous that was.  When my stomach began to ache I looked over to see his lips pursed in a thin line.

“Were you serious?” I asked, composing myself. He nodded his head. “Why?”

“I don’t like the way we left things. It just doesn’t feel right.”

                “Say I entertain your offer?”

“Then I’ll answer all the questions you’d like.” He replied.

                “Fine.” I conceded.

“Fine what? “he asked raising his eyebrows.
