"No bad dream is going to keep me from my work." Serenity said confidently as she hopped out of bed and threw on her clothes. She pulled back her long blonde hair and tied it in a high ponytail. "That's right, nothing will stop me." she said as she held up her fist triumphantly.
The door to her home swung open as she stepped outside. Serenity stood there, gazing at the wonders of her clan. The clan she lived with was small because it was not the central group. Her mother's mother was banned from the central group long ago. After a few years, Neshta could not bear to be near the people who had cast away her dear mother. Serenity, her family, and some very loyal followers decided to leave the clan because they thought that the banishment was unfair and unjust. The main clan knew that without Serenity's family there, they would need a new leader, so they elected Harken to be their new leader. Harken was a very stubborn, yet strong leader and had proven himself very worthy of the position.
Serenity knew today was the day. Today was the day she would march up to Harken and demand her family be allowed back, and their status restored as the rightful rulers of the clan. Of course, only Serenity and her grandmother was left of her family, but restoring her whole family's honor, including her mother and father's, was what she wanted to do. Serenity wanted to change the laws which her grandmother had broke and wanted to get power back.
"Today is the day, I swear it! I will restore what we have lost!"
"Uhh, Serenity? What did you lose?" asked a curious voice.
"Sam! I didn't see you there!" replied Serenity.
"Serenity. I stand here for 15 minutes and then go to get water everyday at this time. I am honestly shocked you still get startled by this sometimes, considering it has been about 12 years."
Sam was slightly older than Serenity. Her long red hair perfectly framed her face and complimented her green eyes. Sam and Serenity have been best friends for as long as Serenity could remember. She had always been there for her, even when she had lost her parents. Sam had taken care of her. Of course, so had the rest of the clan, giving her food and drink, but Sam gave her something else. Sam gave her comfort.
Serenity got close to Sam's face and poked it numerous times. The growing disgust on Sam's face was becoming more and more apparent.
"Serenity. I will ask this once, and only once because I expect it never to happen again. What in *Ghistha's name are you doing?"
"Sam, what do you think I am doing?"
"Signing your death sentence?"
"No, silly. I am counting your freckles!" Serenity said as she continued poking her face another 20 times. "By the way, you have 48."
"Thanks for the information.. now please, never do that again."
"Aw, are you grumpy today, Sam?" Serenity playfully said as she put her hands on her hips. "Is it because Mr. Tough Guy wouldn't go on that date with you?"
"**Vashtabash! No! You know I don't like anyone."
"Eh, oh well. I was just teasing anyways."
"So, is today the day, Serenity?"
"Yeah! Oh, I had almost forgotten, I need to be on my way. The meeting starts in an hour. Take care, Sam!"
"Yeah, you too, Serenity." Sam waved as the young blonde started to run out of the camp.
"Today's the day." Serenity said once more.
