I woke up at precisely six am the next morning to go on my morning run. I changed into a sports bra and athletic shorts and made my way down the stairs, only to collide into six feet of solid muscle,
“Elliot, move~” I paused noticing the familiar ‘C’est la vie’ tattoo and sighed, “Seth”
“I was beginning to think you were nocturnal, Bleu” He grinned. He was wearing black basketball shorts and a blue tshirt.
“Who told you that?!”
“Your mom was showing me baby pictures last night and showed me the cutest one of you in the third grade; ripping off your name tag”
Mom and dad had mistakenly filled out our enrollment sheets wrong when we began school, and as a result we were called by our middle names because everyone thought they were our first names. I entered school as Bleu Trishelle McGuiness, which caused me to be the butt of many jokes. Talia, of course, had gotten a normal middle name, Ava, and there really wasn’t much children could do with a name like Lascelles, so Elliot was safe. By the fifth grade, mom and dad had finally cleared things up but I still went through two years of post ‘stupid middle name’ syndrome.
“My name is Trishelle or Trish. Take one or leave it” I said pushing past him down the stairs.
“I think Bleu has a really nice ring to it, though” Seth pouted.
“I’ve known you for a week and I don’t think I like you very much” I muttered walking to the kitchen. The kitchen was a bright flush of white with white marble flooring and matching countertops. Every appliance in the kitchen was stainless steel, save for the single random red toaster, which was Elliot’s.
“That’s no way to speak to your guest, now is it?” Seth faked being hurt and I couldn’t help but laugh.
“You have all summer to prove me otherwise” I shrugged raising one eyebrow at him. He stared at me with a small smile playing on his lips and shook his head.
“What?” I asked opening the fridge. I grabbed an apple, some kale, pineapple, and a ripe pear from the fridge and pushed it closed with my foot.
“Nothing” He muttered, “So what are you making?”
“An early morning smoothie. It’s to fuel me for my run”
“You run in the mornings?” He asked sounding shocked.
“Why is that so weird?”
“I just figured that since you live in such a tiny box, stepping outside would be something short of a disaster, for you” He grinned placing himself at the other end of the island, where I was cutting up the fruit.
“I don’t live in a box” I snapped.
“Mind if I join you?” He asked quietly looking at me.
“In my box?” I asked confused. He smiled and sighed.
“No, on your run. I go every morning anyways”
“I haven’t seen you go on one”
“You’ve been holed up in your room for the past week, you have no idea what I do” He laughed,
“Fine” I concluded, “You can come. But only if you shut up”
He opened his mouth to say something but I quickly pressed the ON switch for the blender.
“What's your route?” Seth asked me as we bounded down the front steps.
“My route?” I asked stupidly.
