MISSING

I lay on the pavement as the cold dug into my skin.

My fingers were numb.

My eyes saw nothing as they stared straight ahead into the sky above.

My mouth was incapable of forming words or sounds.

My head felt dull, like there was nothing inside.

Everything about my body felt empty and useless.

Was this what heartbreak felt like?

I snapped my eyes open as a sound in the hallway drew me out of my dream.

"Trish" I heard Talia whisper through my door. I was ready to answer as I heard another voice

"Is she asleep?" Seth murmured. I threw the covers over my head as the door knob turned and opened. Footsteps padded into my room and without looking I knew they were his.

"Trish?"

I stayed silent under my covers, forcing my breath to come out evenly.

"Is she asleep?" The monotone voice spoke from the door.

"Yeah..." Seth said trailing off.

"Let's go then" Sam said impatiently.

"I'll meet you downstairs" Seth began as a long pause ensued.

"Fine" I finally heard Sam breath and stomp off.

"I know you're not sleeping" Seth laughed quietly.

"You know no such thing" I cursed myself as the snappy reply came.

"C'mon" He said pulling the blanket off.

"Are you okay?" He asked concerned.

"Why wouldn't I be?" I ground out wiping away at the tears that had dried.

"Are you...were you crying?" He sat on the edge of my bed and I pushed myself away from him.

"Did I do something?" He asked eyebrows knit together.

"Yeah. Yeah you did" I nodded getting out of the bed. I couldn't stand the heat that radiated off his body and hated myself for wanting to touch him.

"What?"

"You showed your true colors" I said quietly standing on the other side of the bed. He stood up and stared at me.

"Trish, you're talking crazy right now" He grinned reaching for me.

"Crazy?" I wondered, "I thought I was sad"

Seth's face dropped in a matter of seconds as he regarded me slowly.

"Trish, it's not~"

"Get the hell out" I spat.

"I didn't intend for you to hear any of that" He quickly said.

"So that makes it okay?" I asked bewildered.

"No, it doesn't but~"

"But get the hell out" I said forcefully, "NOW"

He stared at me with an expression I had never seen on him before and, therefore, could not even begin to describe.

"It has to be like this" He sighed with a nod, "Alright"

With that he left me with my thoughts and a deep ache in my heart.

One more week

I stared at my computer as the shocking realization set in.

Summer was almost over.

I hated that I had wasted this entire week playing an awkward hide and no seek game with Seth. We avoided each other as much as possible and literally jumped whenever the other came within contact.

"Whats going on with you and Seth?" Talia asked me on the previous Wednesday morning.

"What do you mean?" I asked shoving a spoonful of wheatabix into my mouth.

"Hey, Talia" Seth mumbled coming into the kitchen.

He locked eyes with me before quickly grunting out a hello and opening the fridge.

"Want some eggs?" Talia asked him with a smile.

"No" He said quickly grabbing an orange and running back up the stairs.

"What was that?" Talia asked incredulously, "Did something go wrong? Does it have to do with your little romance?"

"Shut up" I grumbled.

"Did it?" Talia asked concerned.

"WE never had a romance. He was just the good-looking player and I happened to be the sad girl willing to buy into his act" I spat looking into my cereal as tears pooled my eyes.

I felt a hand on my back and looked up to find my twin sister.

"Wanna talk?" She asked quietly staring me in the eye. I was ready to reject her offer when, involuntarily, the tears began streaming down my face.

"Why do I always get dealt the crap card?" I wailed as my sister pulled me in for a hug.

"It's okay" She soothed, "Start at the top"

So I did.

"The coast is clear" Talia whispered on the present Monday morning.

"Thanks" I said dashing for the bathroom. This had been our routine ever since I had told her the story. She was my lookout.

"Have you seen Seth?" I heard Elliot bound up the stairs. At the mention of his name, my ears perked, and I pulled up my pants.

Washing my hands, I got out of the bathroom as Elliot regarded me with a nod.

"No, why?" Talia asked him.

"I haven't seen him since Thursday" Elliot said scratching the back of his head.

"Thursday?" Talia gasped, "That was like last week"

"Thanks, Sherlock" Elliot quipped looking to me, "Have you seen him?"

"Oh, they aren't speaking" Talia said matter of factly.

"Why?" Elliot asked as I shot Talia a death glare.

"No reason" She squeaked noticing my look.

"Well, mom's freaking out and so is his mom" Elliot continued, "His dad is coming down tonight to see what he can do"

"Hasn't he called anyone?" I asked finally.

"Even Sam hasn't seen him" Elliot shook his head.

"Seth's missing"
