Prologue
"Is that the last of them?" Will asked. Eli stole a quick glanced at the tall muscular boy covered in sweat.
"I suppose, we should head back to Academy."
"Don't you think there are anymore vampires walking around?"
"You know the law, Will"
"It was worth a try," the boy shrugged and looked out towards the pier, the dead vampire body laid at his feet. He never understood why humans were so eager to give up their souls for something, something so foul. He hissed under his breath. Quickly he pulled a small vial and poured it over the dead body. It was a sort of acid that ate away demonic infected bodies.
"Okay, let's go now," Will stood there for a second wondering why was this girl was so uptight with the law. After all he meant no harm, he was just curious if there were anymore vampires lurking around in the shadows. Eli pulled out a small silver key, she twisted it in mid-air and suddenly a whirling portal appeared. She stepped through without hesitation. The whirling colors of blue and purple fused together. It was a door shape portal, some were oval looking, others circular looking. Just like the girl before him Will stepped through the portal. Walking through portal was a horrid experience, it felt like the body was being pulled in all sorts of direction and at the same time it felt like it was being compressed together. If the person wasn't concentrating hard on where they wanted to go they could be lost in a void forever.
The Academy came to view as soon as Will stepped through. He blinked for a second, readjusting himself to the Gothic looking castle that the Academy was. It was the only of five building in the area. The academy was the center building with two smaller looking manors on the right side, and two on the left. They were pushed back a bit so the Academy building could be the main focus. It was the exact same on the left side. All the manors looked exactly the same except the brick colors. The left manor the one further behind was made out of red brick it looked very rectangular looking with only two larger circular towers on the side. The manors right next to that one was exactly the same just this time the brick were a dark blue color. The ones of the right were the same design layout, with the furthest one in the back with a pale white brick color and one the right next was a brown like color. The academy itself looked out of place with the en state design. It was no wonder why the en states were pushed a bit back so the academy could be the center focused. It was a castle nonetheless, with towers after tower combined together to create a beautiful put together castle. The middle part was more square looking compared to the towers. It was made out of a gray stone.
A dark storm rolled in causing the trees to bend to extreme measures. Thunder cracked in the distance. Eli looked at Will with worried eyes, they both could feel the demonic presence, which was rare because the academy was heavily warded with protection powers from the angels.
"We have to make a run for it to academy," it didn't take a idiot to know that something was happening around them. Will and Eli began to run towards the building which seemed like miles away, their marks began to light up into a bright gold, warning them that there was a powerful demon near. Will felt tired as he had been running for miles when the academy was just a couple of steps ahead. It was like his superhuman speed had ceased to exist and he was running in a slow motion manner. Eli must have noticed it too because she stopped running.
"It's no use," she panted. "This thing is draining everything we have." Lighting struck one of the trees. Fire appeared and a part of the tree was heading towards Will and Eli. Something inside Jake clicked and before he knew it he was summoning every wind he can could conjure up to shove the tree away. It was fighting him, half of the tree was in mid-air trying to break through the wind barrier to crush them.
It fell.
Puffing Will put his hands down. His hands went to his knees, he felt completely drained.
Fire spread through the quad they had just run through. The earth trembled and shook. A roar came out of the earth. A demon was crawling its way out of the ground. It was only half of its body. Large dark shadowy arms clawed at the fire.
"Show yourself!" it growled. It's attention wasn't at Will or Eli.
Out of the fire appeared a small girl covered in golden glowing tattoos.
"Where is he?" She screamed. The demon laughed.
"You think I will give up one of the princes?"
"You will over you will be burned by fire"
"I live in a fiery pit. You do not-"
"-Holy Fire," the demon shut its mouth. Holy Fire? No fire elementalist could conjure up holy fire. Well they could but they just had to be fully pure rid of all pain, regrets, hate, and anger, something Will saw nearly impossible to do.
"No one has been able to summon holy fire in over 1000 years"
Unlike the fire burning in the quad, the girl's hand began conjuring fire but it was a golden color like her tattoos. It was extraordinary. Breath taking.
"Believe me now?"
"You think I'm afraid of the Great I Am? How he casted me down in that fire?"
"I know you are." Fire spread through one of the demon's arm and its screams shook the ground.
"Fine-fine! He's here. In a body"
"In a body?"
"A human, yes"
"A human can't stand withstand that much demonic power"
It laughed.
"You have a traitor in your academy," that's all it took. She looked towards the academy and demon swung crushing her to the ground. Will heard a gasp, he had forgotten Eli was right next to him. Fire exploded from underneath the demon hand. The screaming burned Will's ear.
The holy fired consumed the demon
"I'll come back for you! In 2000 years but I'll come back for you!" The stormed stopped at once. It was quiet again.
Everything went silent and all at once it was loud again, the academy lights lit up. The storm vanished into thin air.
"We have to help her," Eli and Will ran towards the lifeless body that they had just seen be crush by a higher ranked demon.
"Is she dead Eli?"
"No, the earth underneath her is telling me she isn't," dark brown hair covered the girl's face. She was small for a demon hunter. Demon hunters were usually taller than average because of the angelic blood that ran through their veins. Will bend down to try pick her up, she needed medical attention fast. He moved the hair out of her only to see blood dripping from her forehead. The mark on her forehead was black now, just like Eli's and Will. It was the mark of a demon hunter. A mark that they all belonged to the King and they fought demons for a living.
"Come on Will," Jake got up carrying the motionless body in his hands. Her hair fall against his arms.
"Who is she?"
"I don't know." Eli replied with a voice on as if she never even thought about the girl's identity.
