Chapter Ten, Jacob Black
I walked back out to my car with a sigh. I would eventually, and some time soon, have to tell the woman of my dreams that I turned into a dog when I was pissed off. But, I had to admit to myself, I was afraid. What if she wanted nothing to do with me afterward? It was easy when Bella found out, she knew it was coming. But to tell someone that had no experience with the supernatural... The comment she had made when she was in bed popped back into my head. ''I think they might be vampires.'' Did she really know, or was she asleep?
I decided wolfing it would be easiest, and the most enjoyable, so I left my car in Amber's driveway and walked behind Charlie's house into the woods to phase. I tied my clothes around my ankle and thought about myself as a wolf. I had gotten pretty good at phasing quickly. When I phased, Seth's thoughts filled my head.
''I don't know if he's going tonight or not, Leah. Why don't you ask him.'' Seth said.
''What are you two arguing about?'' I asked. Leah didn't say anything, which got a sigh out of Seth.
''She wants to know if you are going to the Cullens tonight, or if you were staying at Amber's. I tried to tell her I didn't know-''
''Why does it matter anyway, Leah?'' I interrupted.
''I was hoping you would be smart enough to stay away from the leeches, but I know that's where you are headed. Idiot.'' Leah was gone before I had a chance to reply. Seth stayed silent while I cursed to myself.
''She's right though, ya know. As much as I hate to admit to Leah ever being right. Did you tell Amber?''
I sighed, knowing they were both right, and I thought over the conversation Amber and I had so Seth could hear, including when Amber told me she thought the Cullens were bloodsuckers. Seth laughed.
''You think she really knows? That would make it a whole lot easier for her to grasp the wolf thing.'' Before I could agree with him, Leah joined us again yelling.
''Get to Bella's dad's house. A vampire is here.'' I skidded to a halt, running back in the direction I had come. Before I even got halfway there, I could smell the leech's stench. I immediately thought of Amber being that close to a leech. I ran faster.
''Amber lives across the street?!'' I heard Leah curse and change direction, heading for her house. I followed the trail, but it stopped abruptly about 20 feet down the street from either house. Leah was behind Amber's, and Seth was behind Charlie's. I stopped in the woods and cursed. The trail was just gone? How? A scream shook me from my thoughts.
