Chapter 5

What is going on?

I was back at camp half-blood, and everybody was gathered around the campfire. Nobody was singing the cheesy campfire songs, nobody was laughing or even smiling. Everybody was dressed in black and gazing somberly towards the fire.

As I turned I could see a bundle of blue silk resting on a platform in front of the fire. Chiron was standing beside it without his wheelchair.

"Hey, what's going on?" I whispered to Chuck from the Heptasus cabin standing beside me.

Nobody noticed me, it was if I wasn't there.

"Chuck?" I whispered again as I tried to tap his shoulder.

A small gasp escaped me as my hand went straight through his shoulder like it were mist.

I tried to touch another shoulder but got the same result.

"Chiron!" I cried, I ran through the crowd to stand in front of him. I could see Mr.D beside him, for once he looked downcast and wasn't drinking a coke.

I passed my hand through both of them.

Again nobody reacted but simply gazed at the bundle as my hands never felt anything.

Chiron turned his gaze to the campers "Joshua Rowe will be remembered as a hero." He stated simply as he lifted the bundle and set in the fire.

No! no, no, no, no! This can't be happening! Josh isn't dead! He was just... asleep... and I was going to wake him up and we would all go home and live happily ever after!

I launched myself into the fire and tried to grab the bundle and pull it out. I could see it burning before my eyes as the flames surrounded it but my skin remained cool and unburnt. My hands passed through it. I could feel tears pouring down my face. I repeatedly swiped my hands through the blue silk with no results.

"Josh, don't leave me!" I yelled

Thud!

I was tangled in blankets as I fell to the floor from the couch I was supposed to be sleeping on.

It must have been a dream! I never wanted to experience that ever again, I sniffed and wiped my tears on the blanket. More just kept on falling as I silently wept into the blanket and curled my self into a ball on the floor.

I will find a way to wake you up Josh, I will.

"Jo?" I felt myself picked up gently, then soft foot steps carried me over the floor. I cracked my eyes  open to see Josh gazing down on me.

I was set on a bed and he pulled the covers up to my chin then crawled in beside me. He wrapped his arms around me and pulled me close. I could feel his breath on the back of my neck as he whispered, "I will never leave you".

I fell into a dreamless sleep soon after I heard his breathing slow to a steady rhythm.
