Chapter 7

After 10 minutes of driving I finally make it to school. Everyone is still swarming around each other's cars and too busy gossiping with their friends about the latest bullshit that they'll be too absorbed to notice me.

I start walking towards the front doors when I hear a familiar voice.

"Don't think you can get away so easily, bitch. We still have unattended business."

Before I can even turn around and reply I hear a dark husky voice that sends shivers down my spine.

"Just because you're an ugly bitch, doesn't mean you can pick on Adeline, Claire. Why don't you find a football player who's dick you haven't sucked yet. That should take awhile." Lyke yells half way across the parking lot at Claire.

"Thank you Lyke, but I have this one. Claire if it's really that important I'll be more than happy to kick your ass right here. Although I'm sure it would be a shame to smear your blood all over these nice cars, I'm sure you're as eager to end this as I am." I smirk and mentally high five myself. No more am I going to let people walk all over me. No more playing victim.

Claire starts crying and runs away in defeat, a look of shock and fear plastered on her face.

I laugh so hard I feel a six pack coming on when I feel strong arms wrap around me. Oddly, I can't stop myself from nuzzling closer. He smells like pine cones and Axe. I look up at my savior and notice it's Lyke. His bright blue eyes have me in a trance when he suddenly lets me go and starts to walk off.

"I'll see you later, Adeline. Wait for me outside when school gets out. We need to talk. Nice job, by the way." He turns slightly and smiles at me before continuing to the high school.

As he walks away I hear a loud squeal from beside me.

"I can't believe you didn't tell me that you and Lyke were a thing! Adeline! Helloo. Earth to Adeline. Quit spacing out and tell me about your love fest with the hunky Lyke. I can't believe you would keep something like this away from me."

I turn and look at my best friend, Sadie. Her brown hair swept up into a perfect pony tail and her pouty face has me almost doubling over in laughter. She looks like a lost puppy trying to pretend like she's hurt. But I notice the sparkle of excitement in her eyes. She's an outgoing person and sometimes I wonder why she's even friends with me.  She has beautiful brown hair and green eyes with brown unique dots that could trance anyone. But our bond since kindergarten hasn't been broken once. Even if I am the Black Plague.

"Sadie we're not a thing. I swear." Crossing my fingers to show how serious I am.

"I don't know why he stuck up for me just now but I'm sure it's nothing special. I'm in the dark as much as you are. Now let's hurry up and get to class before we're late."

Before she could protest I already had her by the wrist and pulled her with me into the school just as the bell was ringing.

Shit.

"Sadie, you know I love you but if I get into trouble I'm going to kick your ass."

She just laughed at my comment as we walked into our English class. Luckily the teacher was too busy digging through her purse to notice us coming in late. We hurried into our seats in the far back and tried to act casual until Sadie burst into laughter, causing the whole class to stare at us.

"Sadie. Quit." I said through gritted teeth.

She tried to compose herself but started laughing even harder.

"Sadie. I swear to god. I will cut your pony tail off." I threatened. Her hair was her life and if that wouldn't get her to calm down, I didn't know what will.

We went through the entire day with the same thing happening.

Me trying to blend in and get through the day while she kept getting everyone to stare at us.

Finally the last period bell rang and I immediately stood up and got my stuff together.

"I'll see you later, Sadie! Love you!" I yelled as I darted out the door.

I raced outside and was eagerly waiting for Lyke. I noticed nobody was out here  which was weird.

Before I could come up with a reason to set my mind at ease, I felt a cloth over my face. I tried to scream but the only sound that came out was a whisper.
"Help -"
As soon as it started, it ended and everything went dark.
