Ring ring ring...
"Zaid... Zaid... ZAID! get the phone"
A sleepy me tries to punch Zaid on the other side of the pillows but ends up punching the air. I quickly get up and answer the phone.
"Hello..?" I answer trying to sound awake
"Mrs.Yasmeen?"
"Yes, this is her"
"Your husband asked to call you at 10am to check on you, he also left a note. would you like me to read it to you or send it up?" The person on the other end, the hotel admin asks
It's 10am already? I missed Fajr... and Zaid already left to his girl.
"Hello" The admin asks
"Yes sorry, please read me the letter" I say embarrassed
"That's good you are not dead, i tired to wake you up for fajr but you kicked me really hard and i gave up. I am out, and will be at the dubai mall. Don't make it awkward like yesterday, go someplace else with your little friends.
That was the letter, would there be anything else i can do for you?"
"No it's okay, thank you." I say
"Thank you, have a good rest of your day"
Zaid doesn't need to worry about us meeting because I won't be leaving the hotel for the next few days
I made myself a fruit salad and watched more Keeping up with the Kardashians, I also wrote some introductory emails for the staff at the new office and did some online shopping for first day / week of new work outfits.
This day went by so fast it was already maghrib time and I was eating some homemade fried rice.
At around 10:30 Zaid returns to the hotel, as he enters I instantly remember what he told me on the night of our engagement... "I am forced to marry you because I almost got a non-mahram pregnant"
What was weird is that he said he wouldn't live with a non-mahram but how did he almost get her pregnant?
I don't ask him about it and instead I ask if he would like to eat some fried rice.
"No, thank you! I had some chicken shawarma with Rosa and it was delicious." He says smiling
"Nice (came out sarcastic), Did you pray maghrib?" I ask
"Yes, I prayed in the masjid. Why do you still have the same clothes on from last night?"
"Huh? Ohh I didn't go anywhere I stayed in the hotel and got some work done" I reply grabbing my abaya and the purple colored scarf
"Why? You didn't want to risk running into me and Rosa? Is someone jealous?" He says smirking
"No, like I said I had work to get done..."
Before he could reply I quickly say "Allah hu Akbar" and start my prayer.
.............................................................
The day had finally come to leave Dubai and travel back to America to start my fake marriage. The only thing I was excited for was my job and the different foods in California I could try.
Right as we got to our seats Zaid puts on his seat belt and asks me not to move. He then rests his head on my shoulder and closes his eyes.
After about 10 seconds he opens his eyes and says "you have no meat on your bones... It's as hard as a rock."
