Chapter fourteen: The Fight

Jacb's POV

I did something I had never done before, I punched someone. I punched him for what he had done to Cara, no other reason of course. She had been so sad out there on the sidewalk. After that my fist stung, and adrenaline pumped through my veins. I caught up with Cara just as lightning struck across the street from us. I patted her back as I walked her back to their beach house. When we got there I sat her down on the couch and went to go get her a towel. As I walked down the hallway I stopped at Jessie's open door to say hi. I looked in and she and another guy were in there. She was showing him stuff in her room like desk decorations and other things. I shrugged and went to get the towels from the bathroom.

Cara's POV

Jacob had given me a towel and set up The Simpsons for me to watch. I sat there waiting for him to come back from the kitchen. He been in there for two shows so I got up to go find him. I walked passed Jess's room and saw her lean in and kiss some boy on the cheek. I gasped because she was supposed to be dating Jacob. I walked towards the kitchen and Jacob was there pulling a sheet of cookies out of the oven. I felt the same way about him as I did Cam, except he was more of a cousin than a brother.

He turned around and smiled at me. My hair was probably sticking up at a bunch of different angles because of the rain. He offered me a cookie and I accepted biting into the soft and warm chocolate chips. The warmth of the cookie made me forget about both my troubles with Thomas and with Jessie. It was nice. I grabbed a plate and stacked the rest of the cookies on it. Taking the plate, I walked back to the living room and sat down. I heard Jacob let out a strangled cry and he ran into the room with tears streaming down his face. I knew what had happened so I got up, wrapped a soft blanket around him, sat him down and wiped his tears off. I gave him a sad and knowing smile. I set the plate of cookies on his lap and unpaused the show, letting him dissolve his sadness for a night.
