Asuki plopped down on the fluffy feather mattress next to her sand coloured cat, Birdie. He lazily stared at her. She reached out to touch his head, but he pulled away, as if angry. This made sense of course, because in a couple minutes she would cram him into the largest suitcase she owned and smuggle him into Beacon Academy, her new school. A month earlier, she had found out that Professor Ozpin, the headmaster of Beacon, was stalking her on a hidden camera and saw her fighting at her old school. She looked at her old room, now crowded with boxes and different books.
Her furniture had been emptied, and the posters taken down. Asuki sighed at her empty room, homesick already.
"Asuki! Time to go!" her mother called lightly from downstairs.
"It's time." she said, drawing in a sharp breath.
She turned to Birdie, who P
innocently. "For you and for me."
Here goes nothing, She thought, reaching for Birdie and her suitcase.
~
"What happened?!" her mother exclaimed as she clumped down the stairs, two slick black suitcases and a handbag thumping down the stairs behind her. "I guess Birdie couldn't say goodbye..." she muttered as her mom dabbed a wet cloth on one of her wounds (bestowed graciously by Birdie). She pulled back and looked at me, tears threatening to spill from her eyes. "My baby girl," she sniffed. "Is going to be a huntress!"
They launched into a 5 minute hug, trying to enjoy as much as they could of each other while we could.
Her warm arms gave Asuki comfort.
"I'm going to miss you," she said.
"Not as much as I'll miss you." her mom said, stroking Asuki's face.
Finally, her father gruffly stomped into the room. His face was handsome, with strong cheekbones and a bushy moustache lining his upper lip. His hair was gray- black and combed thoroughly.
"Let's go." he said.
"Goodbye mom," Asuki whispered.
"Goodbye sweetie." she smiled.
"Come on." my dad said impatiently.
She turned and walked out the door, not looking back.
Her father gave a curt nod to his wife, then walked out the door after her.
~
"Goodbye dad!" she yelled over the noise.
He leaned out of the window and plopped a kiss on her forehead. "Bye honey." he said absently.
For Asuki, her father never cared she was there. He only said what an ordinary father said, never actually caring what she did or where she went. Her mother, on the other hand, was caring and loving all her life.
Her father was ushered away from the sidewalk so the next cars could pull up. She watched his car drive away.
"Now boarding airline to Beacon, last call."
Asuki turned around and hurried into the terminal.
~
She pressed her face against the cold window, watching the city whiz by.
It had been hard to convince the airport security people to let her bring Birdie on board, but they finally gave away.
"Look Birdie!" she gasped as Beacon came into view. "Wow. It's so much bigger than I thought it would be."
Birdie mewed.
The plane suddenly arched in a half circle, then swooped down and landed gracefully on a landing pad.
"Thank you for riding Beacon Airlines." a robot lady said over the intercom.
The students started to spill out of the plane.
Chattering groups pushed past Asuki.
She was pushed around through the crowd, and as the last of the people started to come out, she was finally pushed over.
As she collected her belongings, a hand gracefully extended towards her. She took it, and stood up. "Thanks," she said quietly.
"You're welcome..." a male voice said.
"Say, what's your name?"
Asuki looked up.
He was about her age, about 15, with browish-black hair and endless hazel eyes. He wore the Beacon Uniform, nothing expensive, but twisted it as much as he could with neon blue sneakers. His face was kind and welcoming, but she couldn't help but notice the huge scythe he had tried to disguise as a backpack.
"Asuki." she said, looking directly at his face.
"No last name?"
"None that I plan to tell you."
He chuckled.
"Nice scythe," she said, changing the subject.
"Oh, heh, that..." he smiled.
"What's wrong?" she asked.
"Um.. Uh..."
"First tell me your name." she insisted. "So I can put a name with your scythe."
"Brandon. Brandon Micheal."
"Cool."
The last person scurried out of the plane.
"Maybe we should go find the others." he suggested.
She nodded, and together they strode off towards the auditorium together.
Birdie let out an amused meow and softly padded after them.

Hey whatsup? Anyway, a picture of Asuki at the top. **I didn't draw this picture. Don't give me the credit. I just found it online**
