"Welcome to Beacon Academy!"
Doormen and women greeted Asuki and Brandon as they walked through the huge doors of the auditorium. They chose two seats near the back.
Asuki sniffed the air.
"Mmm. What's that smell?" she asked.
Brandon sniffed.
"Soup. Beef and mushroom soup."
She looked at him like he was some sort of soup god.
"My mom always made it for me," he explained. "I think I'm going to buy a bowl." he announced, standing up.
"No!" she yelled, grabbing his arm. He looked at her.
"I mean, I will buy it for you. Stay here."
He opened his mouth to object, but she had already escaped into the aisle.
She strolled out the doors casually, and unrolled a small roll of money.
She located the soup stall across the hall. Asuki stepped out of line with two hot bowls of soup. She stepped back inside, the doors immediately shut behind her, making her soup almost spill all over her feet. She found her seat, where Birdie sat purring on Brandon's lap. She handed him his soup, and he thanked her.
"Welcome one and all, to Beacon Academy. I am the headmaster, Professor Qrow, taking the place of Professor Ozpin, who sadly passed away a couple years ago because of some... EVENTS." The headmaster said as the 4th year students muttered angrily.
Asuki was stunned. She had thought it was Ozpin inviting her the whole time. After all, it was his signature on the invitation.
Brandon seemed to notice too.
"I thought Ozpin signed my invitation!" she said to him.
He just nodded and shushed me so that he could hear the speech.
"So... Uh... Yeah..." he took a swig of something from a canteen.
"Hello students from Beacon."
A female with a high white bun and a long purple cape interrupted Qrow.
"I am Glinda Goodwitch. I will speak for Qrow most of the time because he... He's drunk. Will all first year students please exit the room and line up on the landing pads outside please."
She shot Qrow a look as he took another sip of alcohol.
"It's time for your initiation, students."
She pulled a long, silver wand out of her cape and blasted a purple beam of light across the room. Some of the students gasped as the doors swung open.
"Let's go!" Asuki pulled Brandon to his feet, knocking Birdie off balance and falling onto the floor, but landing gracefully on his feet.
Asuki dragged Brandon and Birdie out of the room.
Brandon struggled against her and recycled the soup bowls.
"Come on!" she said, excited for the launching.
Sighing, Brandon and Birdie slowly followed Asuki out the doors towards their first step into the world of magic.
