You stared out the window realizing that it was raining. Without thinking you yelled, "Mom! Can I go outside?" No answer.
Then you remembered she had died 4 years ago but you still could not forget that dreadful night. Mom had been missing for only a few hours and you were getting worried. You were sitting on the coach, wrapped in a blanket waiting for her to come back from the mall. The clock struck midnight. If she didn't come back by 12:30 you were to call the cops.
It's going to be okay, don't worry, you thought and turned on the T.V unaware that it was on the news program. "... I'm afraid that a few ghouls had been seen tonight." Said a lady who was reporting. You gulped. There was beginning to be more ghoul attacks. All around the news reporter were the sounds of sirens from police cars and in the background the CCG were investigating around the crime scene. You noticed that they were standing in the 20th ward near a mall...
You're eyes opened wide when you realized the it was the mall you're mother had gone into that night. "Luckily most of the people inside were saved thanks to the CCG." The news reporter smiled as the camera showed the building. You sucked in you're breath hoping that the people who evacuated had been your mother. However, you couldn't bear to see anymore and you quickly turned off the T.V.
Frantically, you pulled out your phone from your pocket and decided to call you're best friend, Juuzou who would probably be at the crime scene right now.
"Hello?" You said as he finally picked up.
"Y/N! Why are you calling me so late? You should be asleep. It's dangerous out here and I got to fight off some ghouls!" He said excitedly.
"That's cool! I'm just waiting for my mom to come back..." You said with a tremble in your voice.
"Hey, Y/N, what's wrong? Did something scare you?" He asked curiously.
"Well my mom hasn't been back for a while. She told me she was at the mall and I called you to ask if you were at the mall right now where the crime scene happened."
"Okay! I'm here right now. How about... wait, I'll go look for her. Don't worry, I'll make sure that she's alright." You heard a slight giggle in his voice knowing that he had an urge to kill ghouls.
"Thanks Juuzou! I know I can count on you. Call me back when you find out."
"I will! See ya." He hung up. You wished that you could help but it would be even more dangerous if you went outside because of the ghouls. You stared up at the clock wishing time would tick faster. After an hour washed pass, which felt like a billion years, Juuzou finally called you.
"Did you find her?" Please let her be safe..
"I don't think she was with the people who evacuated." He murmured.
"What?! Are you sure? Please tell me you can find her! Please Juuzou! Please..." You yelled into the phone suddenly shaking violently.
"The thing is..." You could tell he was nervous about something.
"Tell me right now!"
"Er, w-we found her body..." He whispered.
"No..." This has to be a mistake.. You closed your eyes and pictured her standing at the doorway smiling because she promised she'd buy you something special for an early birthday gift.
"Amon and I found her in a deserted alleyway. She lying on the stone hard ground with a ghoul standing over her. We watched as the ghoul slowly turned around. It was the "eyepatch." He said.
You had heard about the "eyepatch" before. There was a story behind it as well. You remembered that a boy had gone to you're university, Kamii. He was just an ordinary boy in you're opinion; nice, friendly and was interested in books. You didn't really notice him until one day he disappeared. On the news that night, two students were found crushed by steel beams in a construction site. One of them survived, the boy, and had the girl's organs transplanted into him. After that the boy who went to you're university never came back. Some people at the school predicted that he had been eaten by a ghoul. Others thought he turned into one and became the "eyepatch."
"D-did you kill him or was it too late?" You asked, your voice became quiet.
"I'm so sorry, Y/N but all we could do was scare him off. He did the damage."
Tears rolled down your cheeks. You couldn't say anything to your friend. Your mom was dead. The one who raised you, cared for you and loved you was dead. It all seemed like a dream. You were about to wake up and your mom would be there making you breakfast but no. She was gone forever. No matter how many times you could wish she would never come back.
You let your phone drop to the floor and cried not caring if Juuzou even heard you. You just wanted to be alone.
"Y/N? Y/N?! Answer me! It's alright, it's going to be okay-"
You ignored him even though he pleaded and eventually hung up. The funeral was on Sunday but you weren't going to go. You couldn't handle all the sadness.
"Mom? What should I do?" You felt lost in the universe like you didn't belong. "Father is dead and now you're dead. Why me? Why am I losing every single person I love?! I'm losing you to the ghouls... I can't let that happen. I won't loose you."
From that day on, you were so full of emptiness, you thought as you stared at the rain pelting on your window. After both of your parents died you've never been the same.
You ignored people, became antisocial and you haven't even talked to Juuzou since that day. You became isolated and almost attempted suicide. The police helped you find an apartment in the 20th ward where you could live by yourself.
As you watched the rain fall down, you got a phone call from Juuzou. You simply ignored it and sighed. "You still haven't given up yet." You murmured. "You will soon."
He called you again and again but still you ignored it. He then gave you a voicemail. Only this once, you thought and listened to it.
"Y/N!!!! I miss hanging out with you. It's been four years now! While you were gone I killed a bunch of ghouls for youuuu. Don't worry I'm still alive. Anyways, I know you'll probably say no but I'm going to this awesome café called Anteiku and I was wondering if you wanted to come! So what do you say? I'm not waiting for you're answer, I'm going anyways with or without you. See you at 1:00. I'm bringing my new quinque that I got! I'm so excited to show you!"
"Anteiku? Sounds interesting enough." You murmured. "I guess I'll go for Juuzou."
You got ready quickly, noticing it was 12:30, grabbed your umbrella and walked out the door. "Anteiku here I come..."
