Once you got home from Anteiku, you decided to research a few things about ghouls (although you already knew most things). You couldn't stop thinking about what Nishiki had said to you.

Revenge.

You hadn't really thought about it since you figured out about your mom was dead. Sure, you hated that ghoul but we all needed to survive. The only way that ghouls could survive was to eat human flesh. It wasn't fair to them. They didn't have a choice.

You yawned and closed the computer. Your eyes scanned the calendar that was on your desk. Today was the day your mother had died. Every single year, you would go to her grave and give her flowers.

Jumping off the stool, you went over to the door and pulled on a coat. Your hand reached down to your ankle where a dagger was strapped onto your leg just in case a ghoul ever decided to have a small snack. Making sure the dagger was secure, you covered it with your pants so that it was hidden.

You grabbed your keys and walked outside, locking the door behind you. From this angle you could see your small house perfectly. It looked almost deserted, as if something or someone just abandoned it.

You walked down a few blocks until you saw a flower shop. Inside you could see couples buying flowers for each other. They all looked so happy when they chose the flowers. Suddenly, a memory flashed inside of your head as quickly as a car drove by.

"Mommy! Mommy! I want that one!"

You were pointing to a red rose that was sticking up from a vase in the flower shop. The petals looked perfect, all exactly the same shape and size but the most beautiful thing about it was how the petals were painted a blood red.  You tugged on your mother's sleeve as she was looking at the sunflowers.

"Oh?" She turned around and smiled. "That looks perfect. Would you like to buy one? It will be an early birthday present."

"Yes, please! I want the red one." You giggled and walked across to grab it. Once your fingers touched it, a searing pain reflected onto your hand.

"Ouch!" You started crying as you saw blood on your palm.

"Be careful! Roses have pointy thorns." Your mother said and knelt down to bandage the small cut. "Do you still want to buy it?"

"Yes." You said and picked up the rose making sure you weren't touching any thorns.

"It's beautiful."

As you walked down the isle of different flowers you could still feel the image of your younger self running past all the flowers trying to get a sniff of all of them and touching their delicate petals.

"Such a silly girl I was." You muttered, stopping at a section where  you spotted some pretty looking blue roses.

"These look nice." You said to yourself, thinking about how your mother's favorite color was blue. You picked a small bouquet of them and walked over to the counter. As you waited to pay, you glanced at a newspaper that was laying, forgotten on a shelf. The headline read;

Watch out! The Eyepatch Ghoul is on the loose killing hundreds of innocent people.

You shivered thinking about one of the victims being your very own mother.

"Good day miss. How may I help you today? Is the bouquet of blue roses all you would like to buy?"

You turned around to face a male, smiling at you. "Oh sorry. Yes that's all I'm here for."

"Is it for a special somebody or perhaps marriage?" He asked as he scanned the flowers.

"Oh no. These are just for me to enjoy."

"Ah. I see. A pretty single lady like you should find a man. That'll be $8:50." He smiled at you and extended his hand.

"Here you go." You said giving him the money and grabbed the blue roses. "Thank you very much. Have a great day sir." You respectfully bowed to him and walked out the door.

You though about what the man had said, about finding love. Love was stupid and had no meaning to you. The only person you ever loved was your mother and she was gone. So there was no point in love to you anymore. Love just didn't make sense. It caused heartbreak and longing. You've already had enough heartbreak and the longing for your mother to come back. But you knew she was never coming back.

From the flower shop,  your mother's cemetery wasn't far. As you walked down the road you began to sing a song quietly as you glanced down at the roses every now and then.

"Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens. Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens. Brown paper packages tied up with string, these are a few of my favorite things."

You walked to the gate leading to the cemetery and opened it with the key hanging around your neck. Inside there were hundreds of graves. The people who have lost there lives to ghouls. From where you were standing, your mother's grave was popping out perfectly. Still covered with letters and dying flowers. Before your mother died she had lots of friends. So as often as her friends could, they would visit the tiny grave and purchase maybe a small package of something random and leave it at the grave. Written on the dull, white marble grave read;

"A loving mother and wife who never stopped believing that one day in the future the world would be peaceful."

And you already knew that the world would never be peaceful with the ghouls still lurking around. The humans and ghouls would clash until the very end where the human race would be diminished little by little. Soon the ghouls would have nothing left to eat and soon they'll have to die as well.

You carefully laid the blue roses on top of the grave and sighed as you stared at the grave for a few minutes.

"She was a great person, wasn't she?"

You jumped, shocked to find someone else standing there beside you. Just a second ago nobody was there. You turned around to face the person that had just spoken, and screamed.

The white hair, the mask, the gray eyes. You knew exactly who it was, but all you could do was stand in fear. It was all his fault. All his doing. He killed your mom. He murdered her for no good reason. And now he was standing right at the person's grave he killed 4 years ago.

"W-what are you doing here?" You asked in a squeaky voice.

"Asking for forgiveness." He said and before you could do anything, he hit you hard on the head with a rock. Everything turned black.
