We reached Blairstown Airport at 4:45 exactly because of my distracted driving. I can't believe I let Alice put me in such a shitty mood.
We pulled up to the pick-up just as Dom walked out with a duffle bag slung at his side. As I unbuckled myself and opened the car, it felt as if all the negative energy vanished. My squeal startled Alice but I ran into Dom's embrace before she could even speak.
This isn't normally how I act but Dom was one of the only things left in this world for me. Though, I didn't remember him being this tall before he left. I was 5'2" which wasn't too bad but he had to be atleast 6'. I guess that was acceptable for a male. His dad always was tall but I don't remember him being that tall.
He cut off my thoughts with his words, "You seem happy."
"Shutup, I missed you," I released him from my bear grasp and punched him instead.
"There she is," we laughed for a bit before Alice interrupted our reunion.
"So you're Dom! I'm Alice, Millie's mo-"
"She's David's girlfriend," I finished her sentence and she looked down to the ground. As if reading my best friend telethapy messages, Dom only acknowledged her with a brief head nod and a smile.
We loaded up his things and I got in the driver's seat. Alice opened the passenger's door when I spoke, "Oh, sorry. I was just hoping Dom could sit up front. You know, give us time to catch up."
"Oh. I-uh-w-that's yeah okay," Dom gave me an 'okay that was kind of rude' face and I replied with an 'you don't even know the half of it' eye roll.
Just because Alice was in the back didn't stop her from the first-degree. "How old did you say you were, sweetheart?"
"I'll be 19 in a few months."
"Which means you're...2 years older than Millie?"
"Roughly."
"And you guys met how again?"
"Our moms-"
"That's enough chat for now. Dom! How was your flight?"
He seemed thrown-off at first but he nodded his head in understanding once he caught on, "Good, yeah. I was asleep for the first few hours before I realized the movies were free. Have you seen Big Hero 6, by the way?"
"I can't remember the last time I cried that hard," Alice commented.
"Same," I lied.
"I'm so glad I got to come a day early."
"Me too. Except there's really nothing to do here," I sighed.
"We always find things to do. Besides you could just ride down with me to Madison for the day. When I'm not working, there's a 3.7 star Italian restaurant there. You did promise me focaccia bread..."
"What? No. Nothing lives up to Angie's."
"I know! I just really want Italian food."
"We can stop by the store. I have a meatball recipe I've been dying to try out," Alice perked.
"I don't think it's a meatball if you don't put in actual meat."
"Well, I can always make a pasta!"
"Or we can order take-out," if there's one thing I had to choose Alice did worse, it was cooking. Nobody seemed to have the guts to tell her that she was simply bad at it, and it sure as hell was not my job.
The car ride continued just like that. Dom and I reminiscing and Alice butting in irrelevantly. An hour later, we turned into the neighborhood and pulled up to the house. When we got there, I noticed Cameron's jeep parked on the curb. It didn't occur to me to introduce Dom to the boys. I have a feeling they won't exactly get on but there really isn't much of a choice.
