Millie

I woke up still in my clothes from last night with drool stuck to my chin. Turning over, I saw Gray on the floor cuddling my blanket. I leaned over the foot of my bed and nudged him, "Dude, you guys must've forgot to go home last night!"

He shot up and looked around, "Where's Eth?" As if on cue, Ethan walked in with a piece of toast in his hands.

"Good morning sunshines," Ethan opened up the curtains and let the sunshine spill into the room. Gray and I groaned simultaneously. "Breakfast is ready."

With a pillow over his face, Grayson spoke, "I really hope Alice didn't make it."

"Nah, I smell bacon."

I picked myself up from the bed and started for the bathroom. Whatever happened last night still lingered in the back of my throat.

When I got back to my room, Gray was gone and his blankets were folded neatly on my bed. Walking over to my closet, I picked out a shorts and shirt.

I slowly walked downstairs to the morning environment. Per usual, Daniel was listening to music and my hangover did not agree with that. Looking down on the counter, Alice set down 2 Advil's and a glass of water.

Dom and Ethan were laughing together and Gray looked at both of them like he wanted to stab himself with his fork. After making my plate, I took the seat next to him.

"How did you sleep?"

"Like a baby," he spoke in between bites.

"Same."

Slowly, we ate our eggs, wallowing in the cheeriness in the air. With nothing better to do, I listened to Ethan and Dom's conversation, "Bro, we all gotta do something soon."

"Yeah! Shoot me a text, we can plan something when I get back. Right Millie?"

I forced myself to smile, "Sure!"

Dom

Millie made some pretty cool friends. Obviously I was worried about her. Any old friend would be. Especially since she isn't the most social bee in the hive. Now I know she's doing fine and I'm not sure if that makes me feel better.

Before leaving, we stopped at the boys' house and dropped them off. Millie convinced Alice to let her drive me back by herself. We sat jamming out to music for a little bit and laughing.

I cleared my throat, "So, uhm, about the thing I'm supposed to tell you."

"Right. I totally forgot about that." Did she? She must think this is a lot less serious than it is.

"I kind of..."

"Dom. C'mon, you can tell me. Stop worrying about how I'm gonna react," she always knew the right thing to say.

"When I called you, I, uhm, already knew about Audrey," that sentence alone struck something in her, "So I figured you were staying with your mom. And Mills, I went down to the apartments. She overdosed again and ended up in the hospital."

The air changed rapidly. I looked over for her reaction and her knuckles turned a shade or two lighter. She was looking forward with her mouth slightly open.

"Mills-"

"It's fine. She's not a part of my life and that's exactly why. Why should I care?"

"Because she's your mother. And no matter who she chooses to be, you love her. It's normal to love her."

"I guess. You know Alice is trying really hard to replace her."

Smirking, "That's why you hate her!"
