The next morning, I woke up and Travis was still sleeping. Not wanting to wake him, I slipped from his arms and went downstairs to make breakfast. I heard footsteps and turned around to see Daisy standing there.

"Morning. Want breakfast?" I asked.

"You do know we hunt for our food?" She asked.

"Yeah, but I also know y'all eat human food, too," I said.

"Reader," she nodded. "Okay. Well, this is night number two. So what's the status? Get attached or not?"

"Has he done this with a lot of girls?" I asked.

"No, not like this. Anytime a girl stayed, it was just one night. And there weren't a lot, like you'd think. He's a wannabe player," she shrugged.

"Oh, okay," I nodded. "Well, to answer your question, you'd have to ask him. It's his call."

"Technically, it's your call," she said.

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"Sure he'd be the one to ask, but it's up to you to say yes or no," she said. "So it's your call."

"I remember my mom telling me that once," I said. "Can't believe I almost forgot."

"No one has a perfect memory," she said.

"But my mom told it to me. And she's not here. I should remember every single thing she ever told me like the back of my hand," I sighed, running my hands through my hair.

I felt Daisy get uncomfortable with the fact that I was upset. I didn't blame her, but I couldn't help it. My mom was my heart and soul. How could I not remember something she told me? I just wanted her here so she could tell me more things, things she'd already said, but she'd say again.

"Look, not having a mom sucks. And it's harder on you since your mom got taken from you but, you don't have to beat yourself up because you almost forgot something," she said. "You remembered she said it. Doesn't that count for something?"

"I guess. I just want her back," I sighed.

"I know the feeling. But slightly different. You just want more wisdom. I want answers. But life hurts. And we get through it," she shrugged.

"Yeah. So do you want breakfast or not?" I chuckled lightly.

"Sure, I'll help make it," she said and we made pancakes.

Their dad and Travis walked in about an hour later and we made their plates. Their dad didn't have work today. I gave the three of them their plates, made mine, and went to eat in the living room so they could have family time. It was obvious they didn't get it a lot and I wanted them to have it.

"Joanne," their dad said. "You can eat with us."

"I'm okay," I called back.

They let it go and they vaguely caught up. Their dad's job was booming, Travis was almost done with his online schooling, and Daisy was working as a waitress. And I wasn't doing a thing. Just sleeping in a nice family's home because my dad was too blinded with his own work to realize I was gone.

Did he miss me? Did he want me home? Did he love me at all? Did he ever contemplate calling or texting me because he was worried? Was he even worried about me? The answer to these questions was simple. He wasn't. If he was, he'd be getting onto me for being gone all the time and not contributing anything to the house.

After breakfast, Daisy made Travis and their dad clean up since we'd cooked. Daisy had plans with her boyfriend, their dad had to go into the office, so that left Travis and I alone and we were just watching TV in the living room.

"Are you okay?" He looked at me.

"Yeah," I said.

"I think we should have some fun," he said.

"What fun?" I asked.

"There's a party we could go to," he offered.

"Okay," I shrugged and went to get ready for some party.
