For once, I wish that life wasn't set up for pain. That maybe just once I could have one moment that doesn't suck. Hang on, you must be so confused, let me rewind a little bit here. One week earlier...
Gabby Eleor is my name, and sucking at life is my game. My newest tragic scenario starts on a dreary Monday morning, because nothing good can ever happen on Monday, especially to me. I walked into the hellhole called public high school, and got hit smack in the face with a load of crap so stinky, a fly wouldn't even land on it.
"Welcome friends to another amazing Monday here at Zara M. Cross, don't forget the tickets for the annual spring fling next week go on sale today outside of the cafeteria during lunch! Have a wonderful Monday everyone and remember to always do your best!"
The overly cheerful voice finally stops abrading my ears as I make my way to my first class of the day. I had completely forgotten about the dance and that reminder just made my mood even darker. I sat down next to my best friend Dan. Dan was the type of guy that every girl in the whole year wanted to be "friends" with; Dan, being a naïve idiot, couldn't tell that these girls wanted more than friendly conversation. This is the exact reason that I love him. Yes, I am that cliché, the best friend in love with her best friend, shut up. I just couldn't help falling for those big brown eyes that sometimes sparkle when he's really happy or excited. Or perhaps it was his swooshing floppy hair? Whatever it was, I fell and I fell hard.
"What's up loser?" Dan says as I settle into my chair.
"Hurtful!" I cried, attempting to look indignant.
"Oh, hush child, it's out of love" Dan exclaimed.
"Just because you're a few hours older doesn't mean you can call me a child, Daniel!"
Yes, we have the same birthday, but I was born about three hours later. This is a fact that Dan never lets me forget. Just as I'm about to smack that stupid smirk off Dan's face, the teacher walks in and Monday has officially begun.
By the time lunch came around three classes later, I was emotionally and physically drained. I plopped down my usual table where my friends Phil, Sean, and Felix already were sitting.
"Where is dear Daniel?" I asked them, "He usually beats me here."
"Wouldn't you like to know" Phil says cheekily.
"Phil, I will hurt you" I growled.
"We all know its true Gabby" Sean says.
"Everyone except Dan knows of course" Felix laughs.
"Ah, sod off and snog Marzia" I told him, laying my head down on the table in annoyance.
"Fine by me, but she's home sick today" he replied sadly.
Felix and Marzia where the cutest couple in school. Her adorable personality balanced Felix's more crude personality perfectly. I could only hope that one day Dan and I could have a fraction of what they had.
"Gab, don't encourage him! I think she likes oxygen in her lungs." Dan says as he plunks down in the seat next to me.
"Why do you insist on call me by my old nickname, Danny?" I groaned picking my head up to look at him.
"Because I'm the only one who gets to call you that, the same way you and only you get to call me Danny, it's our thing" he says nonchalantly.
I couldn't help but blush at the way he said "our thing."
"Are you guys excited for the spring fling dance? It seems like it's going to be fun this year." Sean says.
"Yeah, I'm going with Marzia" Felix says excitingly.
