Chapter Five: Reunited

POV Jesse

"What are we going to do?" Sam sobbed into my already soaking shoulder. I cradled her head in my lap and sang soothingly. I leaned down and my thick hair tickled her wet cheeks as I moved down to kiss her. As soon as our lips touched she tangled her hands in my hair and kissed me. The kiss was not gentle. It was full of raw grief over something lost.

Two years later

The frost covering the windows in the early spring morning chilled my fingertips. I turned from the beautiful rising sun to yell at my girlfriend of One year, eleven months, and 29 days. Exactly. Our anniversary was fast approaching.
"Babe! Let's go sledding!" I yelled to her.
" But what about Mr. Erund's class?" She replied. I ran down the hill, kicking up snow around my worn down snow boots, to where she stood next to her brand new red Hybrid.
I pulled down her scarf and kissed her neck. Sam moaned lightly." Forget about his class for one day. Let's have fun!" I spoke into her neck. She pulled my lips to hers and kissed me hard. We separated, and she laughed and nodded.
I grabbed her gloved hand and joyfully screamed," Race ya!"
We both started tearing up the hill against the chilling breeze.
Once at the top, we collapsed, hand in hand, giggling happily. Sam gave me a chaste kiss on me cheek and helped me up next to her.
"Aww babe," I pouted."I want to make snow angels!" I flopped back on the snow, making an indentation in it. She squealed as I yanked at her arm, pulling her down with me.
"Mr. Erund can suck my dick!" She bellowed to the falling snow. I laughed and watched her face, so full of joy.
" For a person studying to be a psychologist, that was quite an intelligent and knowledgeable statement," I teased, whispering in her ear. She wriggled in her thick gray coat.
"That tickles!" She laughed again.
"Your lucky to still have a sense of humor, you know that. They froze off a long time ago, along with my BUTT!" I declared, rolling to my feet."Let's go back to the dorm. I am dying!" She stifled a giggle and went red from the effort.
As I trudged down to her car, she called from behind me," Your butt looks like it's still there to me!" I chuckled and unlocked the car. Sam slid down the hill and dusted the snow off of her rear end. We both climbed in the car, and I immediately turned on the heating. I kissed Sam's cheek as she pulled away from the curb. She blushed and stared at the road. I placed my finger under her chin and turned it to face me, and I kissed her once more.
Suddenly I heard someone scream, and the car jolted. The day was no longer cozy and peaceful, but cold and tense. I jerked away and rushed out in the snow to see what had happened. A girl, too wrapped up in scarves to be discernible, lay in front of the car. I bolted to her side.
She was breathing, I could tell, but she seemed to have fainted, and her right arm and both legs were bleeding. My heart beat faster at the sight of the blood, leaking out onto the slushy gray snow on the road, dyeing it a deep dark crimson. I yelled to Sam, who was still in the car and paralyzed with shock,
"We need to get this girl to the hospital NOW!"
My voice seemed to break her out of her trance. Meanwhile I picked up the mystery girl and put her in the backseat, and sat with her. She was stretched out, with her head and hat resting in my lap.
"Maybe I should uncover her face so she will get more air," I offered quickly and worriedly, as I was slammed into the car door from a sharp swerve.
" Yes, Ok!" Sam responded loudly, her eyes glued on the road.
I looked down on her face. It was a small girl, with a single strand of chocolate hair refusing to stay in her hat. I pulled her scarf off of her neck and face.
Immediately I knew who it was, I gasped loudly, just as Sam slammed on the brakes. She turned in her seat, her beautiful eyes wild.
"What is it, Jesse?" She said with wide, scared eyes. "Is it worse than you thought? What's going on!" She wailed at my silence.
I couldn't think. I sat there, dumbfounded. Why this girl? WHY?
Sam wimpered in fear at my face. I was sure it was solemn and surprised, and confused.
"Sam," I whispered breathless, tearing my eyes from the familiar face. She looked deep into my eyes, and I into hers. I took a hesitant breath.
"Sam, it's Emma," I mumbled.

Ohhhh snap! Did you people see it coming? I did. But I'm the author. Hope you liked it. Feel free to comment your thoughts and give tips!
