Rose's POV

I knock on Adrian's door. I hated to do this, asking for money, especially from him, but it was something I had to do. For Dimitri and for me. I couldn't move on knowing he was out there doing what he feared the most -becoming an evil creature of the night and taking the life of innocents.

Adrian answered after what seemed like forever, but before he could even say a greeting, I bolted past him into his bedroom and then his bathroom. I kneeled before his toilet and empty out my stomach. The smell of cigarettes had triggered the queasiness I've felt for the last week to come back.

Adrian rushed to my side and held my hair back as I puked my dinner. He helped me up and then I walked towards the sink. I rinsed my mouth, first with water then with mouthwash.

Adrian was leaning on the wall opposite of the mirror and was staring at me through it.

My eyes were red from all the none stop crying. Under my eyes were the shadows left behind from sleepless nights. My skin tone was pale even for my tanned color.

I was really worried now. The first time I threw up, I thought it was the result of the sadness I felt for losing Dimitri, but as it continued, worst thoughts came to mind. Dhampir and Moroi alike rarely got sick, thanks to the vampire immune system. The rare times anyone would get sick would be women of either races that were pregnant or the rare type of disease that would get past the defenses such as the case of Victor Dashkov. But another perk of being a Dhampir woman was that no matter what, we couldn't conceive with another Dhampir. Only with Moroi men. And I've only been with one Dhampir. Dimitri. Just before he was taken from me by Strigoi. So that left me with the terminal disease option; and it scared me.

I met Adrian's eyes on the mirror before saying, "I...I don't know what's wrong with me."

A tear escaped my eye and with that he rushed to my side once more and placed his arm around me, leading me out of the bathroom and into his bedroom. He took me to his bed and gesture for me to sit down. Then he headed for the living room and came back with a glass of water with ice.

My throat and stomach welcomed the freshness of the water.

"Little Dhampir," Adrian said to me, "Yes?" was all I could respond before my eyelids became heavy and I lay with exhaustion taking over me, falling asleep.
