A few months later Susan and Caspian have asked to come here to Cair Paravel, Peter has bet me that it's an engagement announcement and I told him that we can't wager on it because I believe it to be that too. I have had to get an entire new wardrobe that includes dresses I will be able to "grow" into. The seamstress is busy as ever to fill my wardrobe.
Right now Peter, Lucy and I stand just inside of the gates waiting for the arrival of Caspian and Susan, guards stand with us, glowering at the world before them. Soon the silence is filled with the clicking of horses hooves on the cobbles stone ground. Susan and Caspian ride up and soon are standing before us, exchanging hugs with all of us, and a few tears. All of us walk into the castle and sit to enjoy a nice supper.
The next morning Susan and Caspian corner all three of us in the library. Edmunds chair sits empty, his golden chess set sits by the window where it has always sat, now covered in a layer of dust. Peter assists me in sitting next to him and Susan and Caspian stand before us.
"Well... Are you going to tell us why you dragged us all here?" Peter lightly jokes.
"No, we are only going to stand here and stare at all of you," Caspian wittingly retorts.
"Caspian!" Susan laughs."Fine, because all of you are so impatient we will tell you all right now."
"Well, get to it!" Lucy laughs.
"Lu!" everyone laughs.
"Well, we just wanted to inform you all of our recent engagement!" Susan tells us.
"We are so happy for you," I smile excitedly.
I look over to Peter, his face seems upset, the reaction I expected to see is the opposite of what he looks.
"Peter, aren't you happy for us?" Susan asks, her tone slightly upset but mostly hurt, she does not see the happiness she wanted to see either.
"Oh, yes, very happy. Congratulations," he mutters, standing up and walking out.
"Peter," I call as I stand and go after him. "Peter, what was that all about?"
He turns to me as I catch up to him and we stop in the middle of the hallway.
"I-I don't know. I feel like this is a bad idea and I don't have any idea why," Peter tells me, setting his hands on my arms and pulling me a little closer.
"Why? Do you think this isn't the right time or if they really are not meant for each other or...?" I try to help him sort out his feeling.
"I-I I don't think it's really them I think it might be something else, like maybe another country will stir up trouble or something will happen with one of us, I just hope it is not one of us," he sighs.
"I hope so too," I whisper.
