"Did I ever tell you about my brother?"

The hem of her dress swept the ground as she walked. Her shadow bent long down the corridor, distorted by the low light cast from the flickering gas lamps mounted along the walls. She lazily twisted a strand of hair around her finger, her other arm yy neatly tucked behind her back, brushing the ends of her dark braid.

At the end of the hall: Thump

She took a fighting stance immediately; shifting her feet, propping up her elbows, and sliding thin, silver daggers into her hands. Ambush, She thought immediately, It's an ambush.

"Who goes there?" Her voice echoed down the hall, "Show thyself at once!" A figure shuffled out of the shadows and into the low light of the gas lamps.

At first glance it appeared to be a young boy, dressed in ratty breeches and a frayed tweed coat. His dark hair was tucked into a dirty green cap, which was pulled low over an even dirtier face. Not an ambush then, She decided.

She relaxed her posture, allowing her arms to fall to her sides, slipping the daggers back into her sleeves, "Thou must be aware that thines presence will bring bad luck upon us all. As a boy."

The boy fell to his knees, pulling off his cap and gripping it desperately in his hands alongside a silver pocket watch, "Please." Her eyebrows shot up. A wave of silky dark hair fell around the stowaway's shoulders, "I am not a boy. I simply wished to join the ranks of the Artemisian Airships." She began to twist the strand of hair around her finger. The girl kneeling in front of her had an Italian accent, and an olive skin tone stained with dirt.

A smile tugged at her mouth, and the girl kneeling before her seemed to quiver, "My name is Zoë Nightshade. Second in command to Admiral Artemis, and Captain of this airship."

The girl mumbled, "Bianca, Captain. Bianca DiAngelo."

Zoë smiled, and thrust out her hand to Bianca, who gaped in return, "Well, Bianca, welcome to the ranks of the Hunter."

"Now that you are all cleaned up, I shall show thee around." Bianca picked at the sleeves of the new dress as they walked with one hand, the other rubbing the silver chain of her watch, "Doth thou know magic?"

Bianca nodded her head hesitantly, "Not the basics, but it does run in my family. I never learned to control the elements but..." She trailed off, but when Zoë gestured for her to continue, she began to speak, "I can shut things down by touching them..." Bianca glanced down, tightly wrapping her hand around the watch, "Even people."

Bianca suddenly gasped as Zoe wrapped her arms around her neck, pulling her into a hug, "It's alright Bianca." Zoe told her, "I will never make thee use thy's power on another human. I promise."

Zoë watched as Bianca pressed herself up against the window of the airship, flattening her face and hands against the glass. As always, gripped tightly in one of her hands was the silver pocket watch, the chain dangling below it.
