What an amazing day to set out and just enjoy the sounds of pounding feet and loud cheers as the runners ready themselves for the last race of the day. Everyone finally settled down as the ref ready the gun and sound off.
"On your mark! Get set!" Pop!
Cliques kick up tar as each runner takes off. The sun takes refuge up high as if it is there to highlight the new winners.
Heart pounding as she watch him pull in front. Autumn watched as Cris dark hair fanned out behind him as his bronze skin drip with sweat. It always amazed her on how fast Cris has become. Running like there's no tomorrow... it always made her envious as well.
Autumn shook her head and shifted a bit in her wheelchair.
No today I'm here to support my boyfriend, not make him feel guilty...
So she shut out all negative thoughts and cheered him on louder than others around her. Seeing Cris smile after a great win, or a really close one always melted her steely heart. And she'd fall in love with him all over again.
Once the game was over Autumn rolled herself to the finish line.
"You were amazing, you so should have gotten first place." Autumn said congratulating him in winning second.
"Yea well, he was better." Cris replied with a shrug.
Autumn felt weird about how she felt when he seemed to lose on purpose. Autumn could see his disappointment though, so she grabbed his hand and gave him a large smile.
"Let's go celebrate for the heck of it!" She encouraged.
Nodding his head, Cris gave a smirk in return. His smile made her heart skip, and she blushed as he pushed her towards the car.
"Where do you wonna go eat at?" Cris asked as he loaded the chair into the trunk.
"Let's go see if your mom made anything tasty." Autumn suggested.
With a nod Cris closed the trunk and Autumn's door. Making his way to the driver's seat, he put on his seatbelt and put the car in drive.
Taking the long way home was Autumn's favorite thing to do with Cris. While he jammed out she had time to sort out her troubling thoughts. She loved seeing Cris run, even if she couldn't run beside him. Looking at her reflection in the window she could see the little patches of green in her light brown eyes, her high cheek bones and dark brown skin. Looking at herself made her think of her parents.
"Everything okay?" Cris asked rubbing her hand.
"Yea, I'm fine." Autumn replied with a smile and looked out the window once more.
Once at the two story home, Cris made quick work of Autumn's chair and quickly got her situated.
His mom made her way towards them with a smile and bent to give Autumn's cheek a peck. Ms. Brooke was so beautiful, she sort of exhibited an otherworldly charm that she tried to hide. Her hair was so dark you could barley see the purple undertones, and her eyes seemed to glow a blueish tint.
"So, how'd he do? How did you do?" She asked.
Cris scratched his head as he aswered. "Placed second, but I'll get it next time, I promise."
His mom looked at him a bit longer before turning and making her way back to the house.
"Dinners almost ready, so both of ya wash up and eat." She said.
Doing as they were told Cris pushed Autumn through the front door as it held itself open. Sighing, he locked the wheels and carried her princess style towards the living room.
"Thank you." Autumn said as he placed her on the soft tan sofa.
Cris pinched her cheek and kissed her forehead. "Any time doll face."
With nothing to do but wait, Autumn took the time to look around. Well as much as she could while sitting.
She nervously twisted a loose dread around one of her fingers. Hearing footsteps from behind she quickly fixed a smile in place in hope of it being Cris.
No such luck, instead Cris dad came in and patted her head like she was a pet. Sitting in the recliner across from her, he gave her a smile before disappearing behind a large news paper.
Once everything was set at the table Cris made it his duty to help Autumn to the kitchen table.
Autumn felt a little uncomfortable but she knew he meant well. Taking their time Autumn let him lead her to the table. Even though she can't really feel much she could trick herself into thinking she's walking. Sometimes it worked sometimes it doesn't.
Once at the table Cris dad Roan came in and helped get the utensils out. Roan had really black locks that go past his shoulders and piercing black eyes. Cris has his eyes and has his mothers soothing personality.
Brooke had made barbecue chicken, green beans, dirty rice and rolls for dinner. Everyone talked amongst themselves and laughing in between eating and sharing their food.
Once done everyone but Autumn stood and started putting things away.
"Autumn, call your roommate and tell her you'll be sleeping here tonight. It's dark out." Brooke suggested as she began to rinse off the dishes and place each one into the dishwasher.
Nodding Autumn fumbled in her skirt pocket for her S6 Samsung phone, and dialed Whitney's number. At the fourth ring she answered breathless.
"What!"
"Uh, hi... I'm not coming home tonight, staying with Cris."
"Huh? Whatever, use protection. Night." And she hung up.
"Umm..." Autumn stared at her phone slightly confused.
"Something wrong?" Cris mom asked looking worried.
"Ah no ma'am, everything is fine. She knows where I am so that's a plus." Autumn said feeling a bit embarrassed.
"Hmm, okay well you can go rest, Cris."
Autumn felt herself being lifted like a princess again. One kiss to her cheek made her giggle.
Cris carried her up to her room for the night and sat her on the bed.
"Need help changing!" Cris asked with a grin.
"No you perv, get out." Autumn said with a laugh.
Autumn took her time in the bath and soaking. Felt good to have her muscles relax for a bit. Once she was finally dressed she laid back in bed staring at the ceiling.
Cris had gotten ready for bed as well and decided to pay Autumn another visit hoping she didn't fall asleep too fast.
