When Cris alarm went off Autumn was slowly pulled out of her own sleep. She quietly listened as he got ready for the day.
Stretching she could still feel the itch traveling up and down her damaged legs. "It's never gotten this bad before." She said to herself.
She sat up in the large bed and looked at the wheel chair she's been in most of her life. She kind of resented being confined and unable to move the way she wanted to. For some reason today seemed more or less like a day to not want to sit in it.
Autumn slowly pulled the covers off of herself to get into her chair. Taking her time to get her body to carefully lower herself in her chair. She then rolled herself to the window to see what the weather seemed like.
She saw Cris pull a bucket of water and a large brush towards his car preparing to clean it. His dad had the hose running and sprayed Cris in the back with a huge grin. Autumn snickered as they went back and forth fooling around.
Hearing the door to the room open she turned the chair to see Brooke there with a smile.
"I made breakfast."
"Okay, thank you!"
"No worries, want me to help you down stairs?"
"That... would be great."
Brooke noticed the hesitation but decided not to question it.
Grabbing Autumn under her arms and leaning a lot of Autumn's weight on herself. Walking towards the door was pretty easy. Once they got to the stairs they took their time as to keep the other from falling.
"I kind of feel like a burden to you all." Autumn pointed out halfway down the stairs.
"I figured you were thinking like that. But it's normal."
"You've been so good to me. I think wishing I could walk to help more around here I'd feel useful."
"Listen, life isn't fair, I know that more then anyone. Sometimes ya gotta take what's thrown at ya and make it a better situation."
"Yea..." Autumn legs twitched a bit more and she thought Brooke noticed because she almost lost her balance.
"What?"
"I... I'm not sure, my legs been feeling weird, and I had a crazy dream last night too."
They made it down to the last step and was making their way to the kitchen. Once there Brooke helped Autumn to the bar and the stools there and Autumn hoisted herself up. The kitchen itself was pretty average, marbled counters a small bar to seat at least two more people.
Brooke took some juice out the fridge and two cups from the counter. Filling the cups she then put the juice back and went to sit by Autumn placing her cup in front of her.
"What kind of dream was it?"
Brooke asked taking a sip of her drink.Autumn relayed her strange dream, even the young girl. Brooke sat through it all with her head in her hands and elbows on the bar. Not really saying anything at all. When Autumn was done, they were both quite. Soon Roan and Cris came in laughing after successfully cleaning Cris's Truck.
Brooke took a deep breathe, got up to stretch then went back to the fridge to pull out a jug of water and cups to place on the counter for them to fix their own drinks.
"Had fun?" Brooke said with a laugh.
Cris and Roan were pretty much soaked when they came into the kitchen.
"We'll, guess we did go a bit overboard..." Cris said peeling his damp shirt off.
"I'm going to go change." Roan called back as he headed towards his room.
Cris fixed himself a drink and took a seat at the dining table. He lean back in his chair and took a deep breathe and let it go.
Autumn watched him watch the glass screen door and smile.
Brooke stayed quite thinking over the dream Autumn had. She didn't really know what to say. On top of it all the little she explained made her feel a bit out of sorts about everything. That little girl sounded familiar, she just couldn't place the her just yet.
"Did anything else happen in the dream?" Brooke asked Autumn as she began cleaning things that were already sparkling.
"Nope. That was it." Autumn replied looking at Cris mom blankly.
Cris sat back and didn't really pay much attention to them. But he was curious.
"What dream?" He asked, and got up to stretch.
"Just a dream I had of a little girl dancing with me. Her eyes were two different colors, she was gorgeous." Autumn replied. "Can you get my wheel chair? I want some fresh air."
"Yea, let me change."
"Okay."
------------------------------
Cris kissed Autumn on her cheek after wheeling her outside. He had track practice and she wanted to spend a few hours alone. He was a bit reluctant to leave and she was not willing to let him stay plus Autumn did not like Cris hovering. Ah great time to be alone with her thoughts and how to sort them.
Looking around Autumn wheeled herself down the sidewalk. Sounds of birds singing and dogs barking made her feel a bit better. She then heard a weird sound with the wind and stopped.
Looking around herself nothing seemed out of place. The trees swayed with the wind and ine lone car drove slowly by. A little old lady was taking a stroll on the other side.
Sighing she kept moving thinking she was hearing things, until it happened again. This time it sounded like a voice calling to her, her body response to it was painful.
"What the hell?" She looked down at her legs, she can see the visibly shaking and her arm was turning red and buring by her shoulder. Not thinking twice she quickly rolled herself back to Cris's family yard looking behind her.
Breathing hard she tried to see who was looking at her. Felt as though eyes were roaming over her and that made her feel sick. A throb of pain from her arm made her push the button to open the door several times before it actually did. Rolling her chair in the door seemed slow, when she finally got in sweat was rolling down her face.
Roan was by the door looked at Autumn's face and saw her gripping her arm as if it would fall off.
"Should I be worried?" He asked in a steely voice. "My gun needs new practice targets." He added giving her a nod.
Autumn nodded, then shook her head, then gave an 'I'm-not-actually-sure' shrug. He sighed and kneeled by her side.
"Want to talk about it?" He asked rising and taking the time to wheel her to the living room.
"Well, it felt like some was callig my name and watching me. My arm is still buring, my legs are feeling weird..." Autumn said looking at her feet as they twitched a bit more.
Roan took a sit in the large brown couch in front of her and placed his feet on the small coffee table separating them. Rubbing his face as he yawned he then got his newspaper and began reading it.
Autumn was a bit confused. She never really took the time to talk with Cris dad. He was always quiet and serious. Kind of scared her but she wasn't going to tell him that.
They sat like that a bit longer. Autumn was slowly dosing off, soon Brooke came downstairs looking for the car keys and saw them both sleep. Shaking her head with a smile she got her car keys and left.
