Pain continued on as I went on my trek of home.
It was just a mile. It's been worse.
I kept telling myself that. But it didn't make me feel better for some reason. My dad was gone all week. My mom was working all today and tomorrow.
Which means, they won't catch me sneaking in at seven o'clock.
I know what your thinking, 7 o'clock isn't late!
But believe me, you don't want to come home late in my house.
It's a shame to come home after dinner.
So I was pushing the limit.
I just need to bribe my sister like all the other times. It never fails. I'm lucky to still have my backpack with completed homework.
I quietly walked into my new house. Boxes trimmed the ground and filled each room. I tip toed up stairs and after looking both ways, slipped into Riley's room.
"EM-" I quieted her with a loud SH.
She looked shocked but also confused. It was adorable because she tilted her head like a dog.
"I need you to keep quiet about me coming home late. And all this." I gestured to my tattered clothes.
"But-"
"no buts. I will take you put to ice cream tomorrow. After school."
"But how your gonna tell dad?"
"Dont worry. I won't."
"But- ....okay." she said after a pause.
"Ice cream!" She continued to scream out after. Her quick change of tone scared me, but I soon chuckled and went on to take my warm, well needed, shower.

"Have a good day at school my dear." Mother gave me a small kiss on the forehead, warning a smile onto my face.
"Mom, can I ask you why you always work nights?" I ask, curious. "Honestly, it pays more than day shifts. This is what I do for this family. And I get to sown every morning with my girls. Especially since dad works so much." Yes, my father is a work aholic, constantly working with computers.
The sad part is that he can work at home. Good thing he got a promotion, so he works more out of the house.
Nevertheless he works at home whenever he needs.
