Before I know it, we are at Becketts bachelor pad and I'm teaching them all my tech knowledge. When I think they've got it down on let out a big breathe. "Alright that's enough for now." "I often hear." Archer remarks. "Not surprised." I play along. Dirty, dirty, minded boys. "ooooohhh!!" Dante interrupts our furious yet playful glaring contest. "Damn, this one's good." Beckett murmurs from his corner on the couch. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to hear that so I just stand up and say, "I'm going to go." "Noo!"
"Why?"
"Sneaking out aren't we?"
"Chill guys. I'm just getting ice cream." "And not inviting us! What a shame!" Dante shakes his head. "I'm coming toooo!" Archer wines like a baby. "Man up! Or in your case, boy up!" This is when Beckett, Dante, and I begin our chorus of laughter. This is how the air is supposed to be; light and airy. Not tension filled as it was before. And so we make our way out and head to the local ice cream parlor. order chocolate chip, all the other flavors are over rated. This was my flavor, if I could, I'd reserve all the chocolate chip ice cream in the world for me. Of course, who doesn't love ice cream? One person, and one person on my loves ice cream more than me, and that's my sister. Her love of ice cream is so strong, I have unlimited bribing rights. Anyways, Dante, of course, got his mint chocolate chip. Beckett and his cookie dough. And Archer with his cookies and cream. "Really? Chocolate chip?" Beckett says, actually involved in our ice cream flavor conversation. "Yes. I say again, all the other flavors are over rated." I place my free hand on my hip defensively as we step outside. "Um, not cookies and cream!" Archer insists. "Especially cookies and cream!" I stick my tongue out at him. Our conversation keeps going like this until we finish our ice cream. I obviously won because I'm stubborn like that. "God this girl is ruthless. You should be a lawyer." Beckett rolls his eyes. "Like that's going to happen." I roll my eyes as well, but only speak the truth, but I know that the rest of the boys think I'm playing around. "I wouldn't want to go against her." Dante laughs. "Haha. Enough Emily-Lawyer jokes." I try holding back my smile. "Oh come on, we know you love them. Archer flashes a charming smile. "As if." I don't even remember what the conversation was about, as long as I'm against him. Ah! Lawyer. Right.
"Your dad let me in." The girl I thought I'd never see again states. "Woah. WOAH! My father?" "Yeah, he said he is in his work space if we need anything." She smiled. Of course. Of course he is like this when people are around, he know I wouldn't tell a soul about his hits. Not a single one.
"But Michelle where... where's the baby?"
"At my mom's." She sighs, "I'm so sorry. I should've seen how you reacted when me and him went out to know I shouldn't be with him." She only know how we dated.
And it has to stay that way. Because that's all I ever want anyone to know.
"Your staying here then?" I ask worried. Oh no.
"Yes" I feel a strike to the heart. I need to get her out of here. "Only for a month." She adds quickly, after seeing my probably distorted face.
"Okay. You know he wants to see the baby. You know..." I trail alarmingly.
"Yes. I'm aware of Evan and how he lived in California but as long and he doesn't know I'm here, he won't have to find me, explain to me, hurt me or my child. Please I just need a place. My parents kicked me out. You know how they are. I'm working on getting a place, I just need this favor. I know we didn't exactly leave off on good terms but... I need you now, Em." After she's finished ranting, I stare at my shoes, preparing for my flashback...
