I had first lunch, which was good since I was starving.
I scoped out the cafeteria food first before I got lunch, I had to make sure none of Alison's squad was there. I cringed when I saw Beth talking to the twins, in the twins defense they looked bored with her.
I sucked my teeth and went back to a vending machine I saw in the other hall. I bought some chips and looked for somewhere to eat my food alone. There was a lot of people in the halls and even more in the cafeteria.
I found a bench towards the end of the hall where there were less people. I opened the bag of Doritos, grabbed a chip, and ate it. I pulled out my phone and went to my manga app and started to read The God of High-school. I didn't even notice when someone sat next to me I was so into the manga.
"What are you reading?"
My heart lurched when I heard Kale's voice. I turned to him fast, my cheeks already starting to heat. He arched a dark brow, the way the light hit his dark blue eyes reminded me of the darker parts of the ocean. I found it kind of cool that his eyes were a dark blue and mine was a light shade of blue.
The smell of his cologne or body wash- I don't know what but his scent wafted to my nose delightfully.
"It's, uhm, it's called the God of High-school. You might like it, it has a lot of fighting, you wanna read it?" I babbled.
"Uh, not right now." He said, then looked disapprovingly at my lunch. "That's not healthy."
I snorted, my eyes on his Cheetos. "Neither is that."
Kale's lip quirked up as he ate one. "For your information, I already ate my main lunch, this is a snack."
"Right," I said, not believing him. I started to notice a heat to my side that hadn't been there before, I looked at the small space between us on the bench but couldn't scoot over or I'd fall off.
"Why are you all the way over here?"
"Because I felt like it." I unlatched my eyes from his, "You'd better watch it or people are gonna start talking."
"About?"
"About how you're paying attention to the freak. Honestly, this is so cliche, go away."
Kale snorted, I glared at him. "You're assuming that there's something between us?"
My lips parted, my cheeks reddening. Oh God, what is wrong with me? I'm intentionally embarrassing myself.
"I didn't say that!" I blushed, wanting to run far away now. But then I thought about the party and glared at him. "You're the one who tried to kiss me before, ya know!"
Kale gave me an amused look. "Oh, did I?"
My eyes squinted in disbelief. "Don't tell me you forgot."
He arched a brow, "Oh, I remember. But as I recall I didn't kiss you."
"You still tried."
"It was a party."
A nerve snapped. "Oh, so that's the only reason? 'Cus it was a party? I see." I gave him a nasty look. "I'd walk away but I found this bench first. Shoo!"
Kale arched a brow, "Shoo?"
"Yes, shoo!" I motioned him away with my hand. "Asshole, you're no good. I didn't want to kiss you anyway, humans suck."
"Oh really?" His voice was right next to my ear. He said it in such a .... seductive voice....
I had turned my head away from him, I didn't know he had gotten so close. Hair rose on my skin and my body hummed. I didn't dare turn my head.
The heat left my ear and neck, I slowly turned towards him and he gazed at me in an unnerving way. "Sorry."
I looked at him confused.
"What?" I breathed.
His mood went from flirty to weird in 2.5 seconds. Just like that night....
"Did I hurt your feelings?" He asked, seriously. "I apologize if I did, I know I shouldn't do that."
"Uhm..." What? "It's fine?"
Though despite the situation I couldn't help but notice how freaking hot he is. I kinda wish he does kiss me.... Ew. Stop it. Someone suddenly called Kale's name.
We both turned to see a tall, broad shouldered, fit boy come walking towards us. He was a shade darker than me with bright hazel eyes, and curly hair cut close to his scalp.
Let me not drool.
Kale stood up and started approaching his friend, whose eyes fell on me. He studied me for a second but became uninterested and looked back to Kale.
"Dude, Coach Sharon wants to see you." The friend said.
Kale groaned, "For what."
"Dude, just come on."
Kale turned back to me, so did his friend. "See you later."
"Bye." I waved.
Kale stared at me a little longer, like he didn't want to leave but turned around before I could tell what was really going on in his mind. As they walked away I heard his friend ask, who I was.
I was semi relieved that Kale left.
