As I walk into school the next day with my lack of sleep painted darkly under my eyes (I had stared at the ceiling, dreading the days to come until sleep found me and dragged me into yet another dream of her), people stare at the cast on my arm but never approach, never speak to me. As I make me way to my class, two arms loop around my neck and over my shoulders, weighing me down. I sigh.
"Isn't this the situation that broke my arm in the first place?" I ask, annoyance clear in my voice. "We wouldn't want a repeat of that, would we? Personally, I dread the idea of another broken bone and I doubt you enjoyed the vomit that came with the ordeal."
"If that's the case," comes Hikaru's cheery response.
"Then don't struggle this time," finishes Kaoru.
Did I mention that I can tell them apart? Thanks to my mother, my ears are really keen, even for musician's ears, and so I could hear the slightest differences in their voices and speech patterns.
I scowl, but allow them to drag me to meet the brown haired boy from the day before, who introduces himself as Fujioka Haruhi, and then to class, where they become distracted enough in pestering Fujioka-san for me to slip away to my usual seat, which conveniently the furthest from the three (not really, I deliberately chose the seat so as not to have to deal with the squealing girls constantly surrounding the Hosts).
The teacher walks in and starts class. I pay close attention in order to take my mind off of the Host Club, and to pass the class seeing as I am attending the school under "special circumstances" and I need to maintain my grades.
Class goes by faster than I would like and though I pack my things and leave as quickly and discretely as I can, the twins still catch me on my way out. I actually struggle this time, keeping mindful of my arm and my balance, until Haruhi informs me that it really is no use and I resign myself to my fate.
I am lead (read: dragged) to Music Room 3, where the hosts are seeing up the tables. The hosts show me the location of everything I might need while dropping not-at-all-subtle hints about the piano in the room and I am taught the way to make tea so as to please the customers (I have absolutely no idea as to how their way and mine are different, other than that theirs is more complicated). Then the customers show up and I find myself carting around food and drinks to the different tables, which is rather hard with only on arm.
Towards the end of the day, just when I think I'm starting to get the hang of things, the cart I'm pushing is stopped suddenly and I crash none too gracefully into it. Luckily, I only succeed in knocking over a few teacups and dirtying the cart, but I did manage to draw the attention of the entire room. I blush deep red, stammer an apology, and all but sprint from the room, cart in tow. I hear the hosts announce the closing of the Host Club as I close the door the back room.
I busy myself cleaning the cart and pouring the remaining tea into a cup for myself. After all, no one had drank it and it's best not to waste anything. Even after I finish, I wait in the back rooms and do my homework. Once I'm sure that no one is still in the room, I leave. The entire time, my mind stuck on one thing: What had stopped the cart? After all, I had managed to push it just fine without having to shift it after the incident and I hadn't seen anything blocking the wheels.
**********
The next day, I make it through my classes as I always did. Surprisingly, the twins haven't shown up to drag me from place to place, though Haruhi seems to have been keeping an eye on me instead of simply giving friendly acknowledgement as she had before.
I decide to go to Music Room 3 instead of a random empty classroom to eat lunch at, knowing that there was a piano with which I could work. On the way though, I run into a girl who trips me as I walk past. The polite greeting on my lips turns into a surprised noise as I land face first on the floor, failing at catching myself with my good arm and landing on my bad one.
My bad arm starts burning again, and this time around, my glasses have broken as well. There is laughter in the hall as I manage to haul myself upright and start walking in the direction of the infirmary, but as I stumble past the Music Room I had been headed for, the world spins into darkness and I fall first to my knees, the to the floor.
