Grey

I woke to the glow of sunlight through the yellowed window, it being the only source of light in my room. Well if you can actually call it a room. In all honesty it's more of a closet than a room.

I threw my bed covers off of me, and put on a traditional outfit that people of low status would wear. A white tank top that's just a little to big and overalls. I kept my feet bare because there was no sense in wearing shoes if I wasn't going anywhere.

I walked through the little house my parents and I shared. As usual they weren't home, but then again they really never were. My mother was a maid for a high status family, and my father was a servant for them too.

My parents work hard to support us but we are low status, and a person of low status can't get well paying jobs. Status is how The Society keeps us in order. Ever since the Great War we have been segregated into different statuses. The Society holds us on a tight leash keeping us in line, most people submit to them but there are some that don't. People say that those who disobey are put to a ungodly demise, my grandmother was one of those unlucky souls.

My grandmother was high status but she was a greedy woman who lied and cheated to get her way. This caused an outrage to The Society so they stripped her of her status and reprimanded her in an unspeakable way.

So after the left her to death they decided to inflict another blow and said that if any descendant no matter how far down in our lineage was to break even the slightest rule they would have the worst punishment possible.

Nobody told my family what the punishment would be, but they didn't have to. We all knew that the only answer could be death.

I'm practicality walking on egg shells and so will my children. That's if I could every find a man to marry me because after the rest of my descendants were cursed The Society had one last punishment to deal.

They said that the next child and every one after born into the family would get receive a forbidden name. Those are the names that The Society cast out names of rebels that were tried and hung. Names never to be spoke on the lips of any member of The Society.

My parents had no say in my name it was decided by high standing members of The Society.

When I was little I always told myself that one day I'd earn back my family's good name. I learned way to soon that I never would. Not with a forbidden name, not with the punishment. In all honesty my name isn't really known by anyone, but if I do one stupid thing everybody could know. All I can do is hope for the best and pray I don't die paying for what my grandmother did. My family's been through enough trying to make sure nobody finds out about my real name, and trying to cover up past mistakes.

A lot of people don't even really know my name. A lot of people don't know about my family's bad history either, and we'd like to keep it that way.

So everybody just calls me Grey, and I really don't care about earning back our good name anymore. I want revenge, and I want to make them pay for everything they've done.

I know it's short, but I promise that the next part will be longer. ;) And better uh I hope
