Jeremy's POV
Angela has told me she was on a case in DC and won't be looking for a house the next two days. It's typical for her to have to work the day she gets there. We found a house and got it set up the way everyone wanted it to be. Angela walked in the house and smiled. She was very happy but I still didn't know the stranger standing there with her.
"Do you like the place?" I asked.
"I love it," Angela smiled as she hugged me. She hugged Lylee and James too. "Morgan, this is Lylee, James, and my husband, Jeremy. Guys, this is Derek Morgan." I nodded. "He's my partner in the FBI."
"Your mom has told me a lot about you two kids," he smiled. "Going to college, about to graduate high school." He looked at me. "You, not so much."
"Hey," Angela snapped. "We have a different situation we need to discuss."
"Okay," Derek nodded. Derek, Angela, and I walked to the kitchen. "The kids don't need to hear this. Especially James."
"What's going on?" I asked.
"His birth mother is here looking for him," Angela replied. "She approached me at the office on my first day here. How did she know where to find me?"
"I don't know," I shrugged.
"We have Garcia looking up that information for us," Derek sighed. His phone rang. He picked up and put it on speaker. "Garcia, what do you have?"
"Catherine Jennings has a lot of dirt," Garcia replied as she typed. "She was in juvie, spent many nights in jail. She was sent to prison after she had a baby." I looked at Angela. "Oh my."
"What is it?" Angela asked.
"She was a meth addict while she has carrying," Garcia replied. "That's why she was sent to prison after the baby was born."
Angela's hands were in fists. "What was the baby's name?" I asked.
"Uhm, James Ea---ohhh," Garcia stopped.
"Yeah," Derek sighed. "Thanks Garcia."
"No problem," Garcia replied and hung up.
"I'm keeping James away from her," Angela replied.
"She's just going to keep showing up," I responded. "Just like Four did."
"At least his mom has a better name than his dad," Angela nodded. "Look, how do we get rid of her?"
"Restraining order?" Derek advised.
"That will only slow her down," Angela replied. The doorbell was heard. "Who could it be now?" We walked to the living room and Angela looked out the peephole. "It's her."
"Let me take care of it," Derek sighed. He opened the door. Angela and I stood to the side. "Can I help you?"
"Oh, it shows that the house belongs to Angela and Jeremy Manning," Catherine replied.
"What is it with you and Angela?" Derek asked.
"She has my son," Catherine replied. "Step aside and let me see him."
"No," Derek nodded. "He is of age. He can choose whether he wants to see you or not."
"I'm going to go and tell James," Angela sighed. "You talk to her."
"Alright," I nodded as Angela left. "Derek, who's at the door?" I opened the door to look at her. "Can I help you?"
"You must be Jeremy," Catherine smiled. "You know James. You were the one who adopted him."
"And who are you?" I asked.
"James' birth mother," Catherine nodded. "If you can be so kind to tell him I'd like to meet him ---"
"He doesn't want to see you," Angela walked down the stairs. "I just talked to him and he doesn't want to see you."
"You must've told him something to make him not want to see me," Catherine rudely responded.
"I told him nothing but the truth," Angela replied. "Why would I lie to James? I raised him with Jeremy." I looked at Catherine. "I would never lie to a child."
"You must've told him something," Catherine nodded.
"Just the fact that his mom was a meth addict when she was carrying him and that you were in juvie and prison before you got out," Angela nodded.
"Who are you?" Catherine asked. "Four never said anything about your ability to see people's past."
"Because Four doesn't know who I am," Angela replied.
"Now, please leave the premises or I'll escort you myself," Derek nodded.
"Come on, Angela," I sighed.
"Do you know who you're talking to?" Catherine asked.
"Do you know who you're talking to?" Derek responded to her question. "You're talking to two federal agents of the FBI so I don't need you to tell me anything. I'll arrest you for harassment if I wanted to."
"Morgan, it's not worth it," Angela pulled Derek aside and closed the door. "We don't need anymore problems than we already have."
"She's going to go and get a warrant," I replied.
"Come on," Angela nodded and we sat in the living room. "She has no proof." After thirty minutes, there was a knock on the door. "I got it." I opened the door. "Officer, can I help you?"
"Miss Catherine Jennings is telling me you denied her from seeing her son?" the officer asked.
"Officer Tate, James himself clearly stated that he did not want to meet or see her," Angela replied. "There must be a misunderstanding."
"Clearly, there is," Officer Tate nodded. "Miss Jennings, has a court order that James is to live under her roof until he's eighteen,"
"Wait, there is a misunderstanding," I commented. "We adopted James when he was three years old. That was fifteen years ago. James is eighteen. There's no way this warrant is void."
"Oh, she got the judge to sign up on it," Derek looked at it. "Angela, we can't stop this."
"James Eaton-Manning is eighteen years old," I nodded.
"Okay," Officer Tate replied.
"You can't barge your way in here either," Angela nodded. "We're federal agents and we know our rights."
"Okay," Officer Tate nodded. "Is it alright if I talk to James himself?"
"James, can you come down here for a second?" I asked. James walked down the stairs. "Officer Tate would like to speak with you."
"Yes sir?" James asked.
"How old are you, son?" Officer Tate asked.
"I'm eighteen, sir," James nodded. He handed the officer his license. "I don't understand the situation but I'm sure we can get this cleared up."
"We just did," Officer Tate nodded. "Sorry for interrupting."
"No problem," I nodded. I shut the door and we all looked at each other. "I don't understand what just happened."
"Don't worry about it," Angela nodded.
"Well, James is an adult," I nodded. "He's very responsible."
