Epilogue

P.O.V Gerard

It was 8 o’clock at night on the 22nd of July, 2011. I was just sitting on the couch in the living room, flipping through the TV channels. I just wanted to take a cool break before our huge gig tomorrow. And since it’s the 23rd of July tomorrow, in the year 2011…we all knew what it was about. It was a big, important date for me, my little brother and our friends. There was a honk and I jumped. Who could it be at this hour? I went to open the door, and I saw the last people I had expected to see on a night like this. My best buds went up to me and threw their arms around me in a big hug. I hugged them back. They were squishing me and I felt like my bones could just shatter into a million pieces. “…CAN’T…BREATHE…” I eventually muttered. They pulled apart laughing. I laughed along too. Three women, two little girls and a younger man stepped out of the car and came up to me. I hugged all of them and welcomed them into the house. My wife came out of the kitchen, surprised.

“Oh my Gosh, you’re all here!” She squealed in happiness, and she hugged each of them. “To what do we owe the pleasure?”

“Aw, Lindsey, you know why we’re here.” Jamia spoke up. “Even the girls do.” She pointed to two identical girls. They were her twin daughters, of course. I adored them.

“Come on, I really don’t know.” My wife laughed. She looked at me. “Gerard? Did you invite them over without telling me?” I shrugged my shoulders. I honestly had no clue at all. Everyone was in my house all of a sudden and I was really surprised too. I expected everyone to be at home, just resting and preparing for the concert tomorrow. At this hour, they would have been in their own living rooms, polishing their guitars and testing the chords – considering the fact that I’m just the lead vocals of our band. Then, there was a knock at the door. Everyone shared confused looks. Who else could there be? I walked over, opened the door, and saw a well-built man with blonde hair and ocean blue eyes. “BOB!” I squealed like a girl, hugging him and dragging him into the house. He laughed and could hardly greet me as he was showered with bone-crushing hugs.

“Alright, we’ll tell you why we’re here.” Frank said, clapping his hands together. He had a box in his hand and he told all of us to sit around the coffee table. There were five very thick leather-bound books in there. He took the first one out and everyone gasped. I felt the tears well up in my eyes. Oh my God. I looked at him.

“Frank? Is that…what I think it is?” I asked, wiping a tear away from my eyes.

“Yes, Gerard,” Ray answered me for him. “It is.” A breath caught in my throat and suddenly everyone got so emotional. There were smiles and a huge commotion just got up out of nowhere. We were just urging Frank to open it. Alicia and Christa were just pushing him around, forcing him to open the damn thing. Nobody would lay a dangerous hand on that book – it held far too many good memories to be damaged. It was absolutely priceless. My little brother just sat on my left on the couch and Lindsey sat beside me. I had an arm around my brother and my fingers entwined with hers. I couldn’t really bother with urging Frank. I had flashbacks of everything going through my head right now.

Then, I saw a small figure walking out of a room. I swept my red hair away from my eyes and smiled. It was a little girl around the age of 2. “What’s with the big noise?” She snapped. Ah, she’s a really cool, talkative little girl, alright. Then, her eyes widened when she saw everyone in the room. “Uncle Mikey, Uncle Ray, Uncle Frankie, Uncle Bob!” I loved it when she called them that way, although the uncles weren’t all related. She hugged them, and then went over to greet everyone else. Finally, she was done.

“Come on, Bandit, come over here!” I told her. She smiled widely and ran over towards me. I scooped her into my arms and kissed her forehead. I placed her on my lap. “How’s daddy’s little bumble bee doing in her room?”

“Well, I was drawing a picture of you, mommy and me.” I laughed a little at this and looked at Lindsey. She just smiled at me and stroked Bandit’s hair. “But then I just heard this huge bunch of squealing and I had to investigate. I thought some nasty bad guy came in and I just had to be Batman and save the day!” She was getting really excited about the whole story. But, in the end, she just frowned and crossed her arms.

“But…what happened then? What’s wrong, Bee?” Mikey asked over my shoulder.

“I thought I was gonna be the hero,” she grunted. “But instead they were just my uncles and aunts.”

“Aw, don’t worry, Bee,” Lindsey kissed her. “You’re always daddy and mommy’s little hero.” Bandit pulled out an imaginary sword and shield and just pretended to swing them around, fighting the ‘bad guys’. Everyone just burst out laughing and Frank finally calmed us down.

“Daddy,” Bandit asked me. I looked at her. “What’s that thing Uncle Frankie’s holding?”

“Oh, that,” I muttered, taking the book away from Frank and opening it. Nobody protested. “One day you’re gonna grow up and realize that daddy and your uncles are all in the same band. And your mommy is talented and she’s in a band too. So, I’m gonna tell you a story about daddy, mommy, your uncles and aunts. Is that okay with you, Bee?”

“Are Cherry and Lily in the story too?”

“Of course they are, Bee.” She nodded and sat upright in my arms. Everyone’s eyes rested on the black and white photographs of our teenage years in college. “Ah, those sad days…”

“Daddy, if this is a sad story, and then I don’t want to hear it.”

I kissed her forehead. “Don’t worry, Bee,” I smiled. “It’ll get better and better, I promise. And if it really is too sad sometimes, then you can be daddy’s little hero and kick all the sad butts!” She grinned and I continued. Suddenly, the whole living room went silent and the memories of the past flooded our minds. We walked down memory lane together.

Sorry for the little cliffhanger there. I know it's shit short but it's just an epilogue. I'll be busy for the next few weeks or so (my fucking year-end exams are here) but I'll try to write the next chapter. 'Till then, beautiful!
