Everything has always been handed to me, I've never worked for anything in my life, I have been handed everything, from cars to money. My life has been easy brezzy and easy going. Ha! As if, If only that were true. I come from overtown miami, where dudes shoot from the chest then ask questions. I grew up where pimpin, sellin, and strippin was all there was to look forward to. Lucky me right? I was always told that this hood will eat you alive and most times it does. I'm Shondrah Wright, and welcome to my crazy life.
November 7th, 5:00 am
Beep! Beep! My alarm rings and wakes me up to remind me to get my siblings and I ready for school.
"Get up yall, its time for school" I yell half asleep myself.
I walk over and start shaking them awake...
Wait! Pause. Before I jump into this whirl wind of a story I'll start with my background.
In my house its just me, my mom and my two younger siblings, DeShawn and Reginae. We live in a small two bedroom apartment, where me and my siblings have to share a room which feels like an 8 by 6 jail cell.
My mom Donna, if you can call her that, has been on drugs since I can remember. (I know, typical) I've always and most likely will always continue to be the the glue that holds every one together. I've just turned 18 and technically an adult, but turning 18 means nothing considering I've had to be the "adult" practically all my life. My mom had me at 21 and acts as if I'm the biggest mistake she's ever made. And yes, according to her I'm a bigger mistake then the drug she smokes, snorts, and/or shoots up. But don't feel bad for me, having her outta the picture makes life easier believe it or not. Your probably wondering, well where's your father? And you guessed it again, I don't know who he is. My mom had three kids by three different fathers, yeah I know, I know, typical.
Now back to our regularly scheduled program.
"Get up now! Before yall late for school." I snatch the covers off the two snoring lumps. Reginae being the obedient one, gets up and heads to the bathroom.
Reginae is 8 years old and is extremely smart, even though my mom was on drugs through out her pregnancy, but only lord knows how such a smart little girl ended up in this family.
"Get up Deshawn! I can't do this with you every morning." I say highly frustrated.
Now DeShawn on the other hand is 15 and a pain in the ass. That boy will speak his mind no matter how stupid or ignorant it sounds.
"I aint going to school, So leave my ass alone." He says as if he has a choice.
"Boy get your butt up, I don't have time for your bull this morning!" I say while trying not to go Kung Fu Panda on his ass.
"I told you, I aint going to school. So leave me the fuck alone and get out" He demands while throwing the cover back over his head.
"Have you lost your damn mind?! Who the hell you think you talking to boy!" I pull the covers off and throw them on the floor. I don't understand why everyday has to be a hassle with this boy.
"Don't forget I'm older than yo dumb ass so get the fuck up before I have to handle yo punk ass!" I say rolling my neck a little too hard on that last bit, but damn, boy be working my nerves.
"You ain't gon do shit." He says, challenging me.
"Oh, really?" I walk into the kitchen grab a bucket, fill it with ice and water and carry it back to the room. I pick up the bucket and throw it at him.
"SHIT!! Shondrah! Thats cold!!!"
"Next time it will be hot water, now clean this up and get READY!!" After what seemed like forever we all get dressed and start to head out.
