this poem is supposed to be abt me being asexual, but i felt like the ending i gave it fit the overall theme better idk. just wanted to give a heads up. also i wanna say this is a poem but its formatted weird so its like extreme freeform/small storytime thing

-----

when i was around 12 years old, i realized that my favorite flavor of starburst was yellow.
i liked the sweet, juicy taste that held a tangy touch as it dissolved in my mouth and occasionally got stuck inbetween my teeth.
i liked how the color was bright like the sun in the corner of my drawings.
i even liked to fold up the wrapper and make them into tiny boats for my little brother.

yellow was my favorite starburst flavor, and i was happy with that.

but as i got older, i got less happy with that.

"everyone knows that pink is better."

"pink is my favorite flavor."

"if you dont like pink, something is probabably wrong with you."

"why don't you just try the pink ones?"

trust me. i tried it. i just didnt like it. and i felt so bad because maybe i was weird that i liked the yellow ones so much.
i mean,
its not like i could change the fact that i preferred yellow. becaue i tried to like pink,
(i really did)
but the flavor was just so sickeningly sweet that i had to spit it out.

even now, i bet there are people who see me as weird because i simply don't like pink starbust.
everytime its
halloween
or a birthday party,
i still feel insecure when i reach for the yellow one,
like im out of place.
maybe i should just fake a love for pink starburst,
maybe if i just pretended for long enough people would finally leave me alone and i could eat my yellow starburst in peice.

(i bet some of you guys are confused as to why i wrote an entire poem about my love of yellow starbursts. i guess i should also mention that when i was around 12, i also found out that i was gay.)
