I squinted my eyes as sunlight from the windows drained them. Stretching my legs, my toes braced the bed post. All the chaos of yesterday came pouring back to me, feeling the aches that filled my body. I could hear the 'pitter-patter' of the shower water as it hit the floor. Tyler must be showering.
I loved waking up in this bed though, remembering all the times we shared in this bed.
I lay in my pillow and refused to get up. Hugging the purple satin sheets closer to me, I stared at the ceiling. Tyler finished showering and I could hear the water seize. Closing my eyes immediately, I pretended that I was fast asleep.
It's not that I didn't want to talk to him, he made me mad, angry and furious. At the same time I really loved him and nobody in the world made me feel so secure,
happy, passionate and loved. Almost always I subsided to everything this man said, but I also had myself to think about and all the emotions that came with this...with us.
Ignoring his presence, as he strolled across the length of the room to his wardrobe. Squinting, I happened to catch a glance of him changing. Clad in his off-white towel closed at his waist that revealed his glistened muscular chest and perfect 'v'.
In high-school, I always used to be shy and afraid to talk to guys at times but he just drove me crazy...I mean damn he was hot as hell. Who wouldn't want him?
He finished dressing and came to kiss me goodbye. His warm, soft lips pressed against my cheek.
"Babe, I'm leaving." Tyler says.
"Mhmm..." I replied.
Sleepily, I rolled on my side further tangling my bed sheets. Desperately trying to ignore him.
"I'm sorry about yesterday." He continues. "I'll make it up to you, I promise."
Hearing the distancing of his footsteps on the hardwood floor, I lazily resumed my hobby of staring at the ceiling. Tyler always tried to make everything, he was such a 'fixer'. He had this notation that he could make life easier... that everything could be solved. Be it his friendship, family, problems, relationships...
Smelling the warm scent of coffee lingering in the air, I smiled to myself. The one thing that Tyler and I extremely loved was coffee. We used to lay on the grass at night and drink coffee. I know it was really weird, but we were so used to it. Nowadays, we didn't have those nights where we got high as hell and jumped around like a bunch of kids. Now it wasn't the same, not horrible either just different.
Tyler was so caught up in his job and we were so distant. Most of the time, I longed for what we did and how close we used to be. I just learned to be happy for what I do have which is a home and a long loving husband.
Reluctantly, I hopped out of bed and hurriedly went to take a shower. Over the edge of the balcony, I could spot Tyler backing out of the driveway. Dressed in a crisp clear blue and white suit. He headed off to work being the boss of a PR company.
I hadn't been able to find a job since we moved into this place. Tyler was patient with me and insisted that sooner or later I would find one. The one thing that I hated though was being stuck in the house all day so I usually found something to pass time with or went somewhere.
After showering, I examined my wardrobe on what to wear. Pulling on a light blue tank top and skinny jeans, and tying my hair into a tight ponytail.
I made my way downstairs. As soon as I reached the foot of the stairs, my phone started ringing. I hurried back upstairs to answer it. Thankfully, it was none other than my best friend Anirah.
"Hey." I said into the phone.
"Hello, darling. " a high pitched voice gushed.
"So what's up with you?"
"I'm amazing, what about you?" Anirah asked "still high off your honeymoon..."
"I'm fine" I lied. To be honest, the last thing I wanted to talk about was my marriage.
"You just had to get the hot one!"
"I guess I play my game right." I said smiling to myself, Anirah always knew how to make me feel better.
"Why do you sound so dull? Anyway, you need to get out of that house."
"Shouldn't you be at work?"
"That's where I'm going. Just had to tell you something."
"What?"
"Guess what?"
"You finally realized that you're intern doesn't have the hots for you."
"He does...and no, you idiot." She laughed "I got us two VIP tickets to an awesome party."
"Sounds cool, but I don't think I'll come." I tried to sound apologetic.
"Come on, you can't stay cooped up all day in the house." She continued.
"But I..."
"No, you're coming and it'll be fun. Hot guys will be there."
"You know I'm married right?"
"And I'm not, just much more of a reason to go. You'll finally get out of the house too, no harm done."
"Whatever."
"You're coming and I've got to go. Time is really not on my side."
"Bye crazy."
"Bye."
Anirah Taylor, the girl who had been my best friend since high school. We did everything and literally anything together. She had blazing red hair, probably matching her temper and always fierce, never afraid to speak her mind.
I envied her bravery at times yet for some reason, she always talked me into doing the craziest things. One time we snuck out to go to this house party, ended up high off weed and slept at our friends house. We had never even smoked before!
Returning downstairs to prepare my breakfast, I made French toast and orange juice. I daydreamed while staring at the polished kitchen tile and wondered whether I should go to the party. Not for Anirah's sake, but my own. I hadn't gotten out of the house lately and it would be nice to have a little fun. How would Tyler react if he knew I was going to a party? Well, whatever...it would be like a girls night out.
Ding-Doing!
The sudden noise startled me as I ran to go check the door. Opening the door, I saw a delivery man with ash-brown hair, mud-pie eyes and dressed in khaki trousers, red T-shirt and a brown cap. He was carrying a huge box written Swiss italic chocolates and a bouquet of blue roses.
"Who are you?" I asked surprised.
"Are you Lilah Evans?" He asked
"Well yeah."
"This is for you."
"From who?"
"Please, read the message."
"Well thank you...David." I said glancing at his name tag.
"Welcome." He said as he proceeded to his car.
Who was this from? And why didn't I hear the car pull up? I swear I could be so absent-minded sometimes.
I was carrying the package in my hand, I read the heart-shaped tag attached. I really hated heart or girly colors maybe because I was some what of a tomboy.
The tag read:
I'm really sorry for everything that happened. I was ahead of myself. I really love you and would go to the ends of the earth for you.
Yours truly,
Tyler.
At least he got me chocolates. They were like paradise in a box. Opening the box, I ate the two square-shaped chocolates and the delight exploded in my mouth. This was really sweet of Tyler, but it couldn't make up for everything he had done. He couldn't 'fix' this.
The promises we're piling up. I put the blue roses in the vase and the only thing they reminded me of was his eyes. I did love him and if promises we're what kept us together, then so be it. I was going to the party and I was gonna have a hell of a time.
