Karlie came to pick me up in her silver Lexus wearing overalls and a tie dye t-shirt inside, while I on the other hand, was dressed in a sleeveless black and white striped shirt with skinny jeans and my champion Keds. Karlie's short blonde curls hung perfectly as always, and she donned no makeup. I always wondered how she could look so perfect effortlessly while I have to wake up an extra 2 hours just to make myself look presentable. That explains why she is a model, I guess.
"Morning Tay!" she greeted me with a wide smile as I got into her car. "Morning sunshine!" "Are you excited for today?"
"I think I'm more nervous than excited..."
"Why? Afraid none of the dresses will fit you or you won't find something you like? Well you shouldn't be worried! I'll make sure there's the perfect dress for you!" She spread her arms out wide and gave a loud "Woooooooooh!" before placing them back on the wheel.
"I'm SO excited!! We are finally having a girls' day out after ages! And I am so thankful you decided to let me be your bridesmaid!" She gave this smile that made me go soft inside. If I were a guy , I'd be in love with her. She's this little ball of sunshine that never fails to cheer you up whenever your are down. She'd text you every 5 minutes just to check how you're doing. It's like, she's the girl of every guy's dreams. And the BFF of my dreams.
And I still don't get why she doesn't have a boyfriend though.
"Let's go grab some J.CO before heading off to The Bridal Garden! I heard from my friends that the dresses are really pretty so it's worth a shot!"
Honestly speaking, I think she is more excited than me.
"Alright then. Mmm, I can't wait to get some donuts and coffee for breakfast! It's seriously been awhile."
We parked outside J.CO and we got a box of a dozen donuts to share and two lattes for ourselves. We then hopped into the car and Karlie drove us to The Bridal Garden.
**
It was a one-storey bridal shop, and The outside of the bridal store looked newly refurbished, with rose gold walls and gold trimmings on the white pillars. The sides of the entrance was decorated with bushes of really pretty tulips and roses, and there was this small sign stating "The Bridal Garden" in cursive letters. I pushed the door open and stepped in and a small bell rang at the top of the door.I was greeted by white. Clean white. The walls, the ceiling, the floor tiles, the fan, the counter, everything was just, white. Well whoever designed this shop sure is obsessed with white. I looked over to Karlie and her eyes were wide in amazement, and her jaw was hanging. "It's so...wedding-ish, don't you think?" I casually asked. "Well I sure wasn't expecting this..." she paused, and was about to continue her sentence when an attendant came rushing towards us.
"OHMYGOD. ITS TAYLOR SWIFT. AND KARLIE KLOSS." She covered her mouth with her hands and she started shaking. She started squealing and jumping up and down and repeating 'Oh my god' like a thousand times and another attendant literally had to come out and calm her down. Me and Karlie just froze. I guess it's been a while since we met someone squealing when they met us.
"I sincerely apologise on the behalf of my colleague. She has been a fan of you two for a really long time and I guess she never expected she woukd meet you guys in her lifetime." She chuckled. It was this really cute chuckle that everyone would fall in love with.
"Nice to meet you two. My name is Alyssa and I will be at your service for today!" She gave us a warm smile and stuck her hand out towards us. Karlie and I both shook it firmly before letting go. Alyssa was dressed in a white collared blouse and skirt concealed by a black jacket and black heels. A nametag was pinned on her left collar. I assumed this was the standard uniform for all the employees."So Taylor, any idea what you want to look like on your life changing day?"
Well, that was something i sure hadn't considered before coming here.
"Uhm...I'm not too sure." I thought for a while before continuing, "Probably something simple and not too revealing." Karlie shot me a look. I knew she wanted something more than that. Something extravagant, something out of the way, but that wasn't me at all.
"Alright then, follow me!"
As Karlie and I followed Alyssa down the hall, I browsed among the dresses that were hanging on the sides. "So Tay, anything nice?" There was this unexplainable expression on Karlie's face. "Nope." No dress caught my eye. One after another, I took them out to have a look, but most were all the kind of gown Karlie would wear, not I would wear. A few times i took out a dress which I thought looked great, but when I inspected it again, I would notice some part of the dress that I didn't fancy, so I just hung it back.
Alyssa pulled put a dress, turned to face us and held the dress up. "How's this?" I scanned the dress from top to bottom. It was a bustier cut, with pretty laces winding down the dress. It was a simple design, but one problem: it was long. I mean, really long. Alyssa handed the dress over to Karlie and considering that Karlie was taller than me, she had to hold the end of the dress up really high to prevent it from touching the floor. I could imagine myself wearing that dress. Me, walking down the aisle, and then I trip on my own dress, fall and make a fool of myself in front of ny friends, family and the media. No way.
But Karlie thought differently. I could see her eyes go wide in awe and her jaw started to drop. All of a sudden, she screamed "AHHHHHHHH!" which made me and Alyssa jump.
"THIS IS IT TAYLOR. THIS IS IT. THIS IS THE DRESS. YOU HAVE TO TRY IT. NOW. IT'S AN ORDER."
When Karlie gave orders, I knew better than to go against it.
I stepped into the fitting room and tried on the dress. It fit better than expected, and it suited me. The end wasn't that long either, due to my tall built. It's beautiful. I was unsure whether this was the dress, but something caught my eye which made me decide. It wasn't noticeable at first, but when you inspect the lace closely, you would see it. There, hidden among the intricate lace were stars- small silver sequin stars. They were scattered all over the the laces and they reflected light, which made the dress look sparkly. It wasn't something big, but it was essential. Without it, the dress would just be like any other dress. The stars made it special. They weren't just on the lace, they were everywhere. There were some on the waistline, some scattered down the dress, and some on the skirt. The stars, they are so important. So, so important. But not just the fact that it made the dress sparkly. There was something else.
It reminded me of him.
I don't know why but the stars, it reminds me of a memory, or of something me and him shared.
It was something of great significance.Yes, I may be getting married to Calvin, not him.
But still, i couldn't let go of that something.
If you ask me to let go of other things, such as my success, my house, my riches, my career, I could. But not that.
I don't know what it is, but it is something of great importance to me.
It is binded to me.It's a piece of me.
I steeped out of the fitting room. Karlie's and Alyssa's attention turned towards me.
"So...What's your decision, soon to be Mrs. Harris?" There was hint of pressure in Karlie's tone.I breathed deep breaths a few times. I then gave one final glance at my reflection in the mirror opposite me.
Here goes nothing.
"This is it."
