CHAPTER TWO : THE VISITOR

Mikhai landed on the top off a house and perched himself on the edge. Jayla Evans and another girl, walked along the street below, unaware that they were being followed. Mikhai dropped from the roof into the shadows between to brick houses. He was well hidden from view here, almost completely covered by darkness. Jayla looked exactly like her mother did when she was sixteen, the same blue eyes, slight figure, and snowy white hair.

Keoin had been right that she was about to go through the change, her skin was decorated with the clan markings that were only visible to darkslayers. There was a marking behind her hair at the base of her neck that made Mikhai's stomach twist. Something about it was just wrong, unholy even. He tried to shake the creeping feeling of fear, it was irrational and childish. Than again, that mark didn't belong to the clan.

Her eyes were already starting to show flecks of gold in them, the change might happen sooner than even Keoin anticipated. Mikhai could only hope that the first stage would take more than tree days to complete, at least than she could still live amongst the humans with out detection.

Jayla's head snapped up suddenly, swivelling around to stare into the shadow's and meet Mikhai gaze. Their eyes locked on each other, neither able to break away . A normal darkslayer wouldn't be able to see him here, unmoving in the darkness, but than again, Jayla was never close to normal. She let out a barely audible gasp and tore her gaze away to turn to her friend.

Mikhai took his chance and jumped out of view. Jayla seemed fine, he could probably go and come back tomorrow to check on her. Mikhai took off at a run down an near by ally. There was a portal in a restaurant around here that he could use to get to Monclova. he would have to stop by the council's building to check on Tyrus anyway. Mikhai really liked the kid and was still trying to convince the council that the boy was of some use and would be better if he wasn't killed. Than again, some of the members never believed that Pein had become a downworlder. They still count him as one of their own, for them his death is personal.

A blood curdling scream pierced the night air. The scream came from the direction of where he left jay and the other girl. This could be very bad, he flat out sprinted back the way he came hopping fences and dodging cars. He flung himself on to the roof that he had stood on earlier and looked around. The girl Jayla had been with, lay on the ground unconscious , jay standing over her. The marks on jay's arms and legs glowed dully. The change has been forced upon her. Her irises are now a glistening gold, almost completely taking over the whites of her eyes. This is impossible,Mikhai thought to get to this part of the transformation took a whole night, yet she only took a few minutes. Only one other darkslayer was known to have transformed that quickly, Addison Evans, Jayla's brother.

A boy had reached out and grabbed her arm. The second jay touched the boys skin with her hand his knees buckled and he fell to the ground. Mikhai knew he should intervene but he was so amazed that she had such skill in her talent already, he just wanted to watch a little longer. A knife went flying threw the air leaving a boy, who had planned to use it on Jayla , looking more than surprised. Another drove his knife at Jayla's chest but she dodged it and sent him flying with a single punch.

The girl was going to be a legendary fighter. She was extremely powerful and there fore needed to be heavily protected from those who would seek to use it. They all jumped at her, throwing everything they had into the fight. It looked extremely odd, a small girl fighting so many boys that are much bigger than her. Yet , they were no match for her. She was was weaving in and out, avoiding their attacks with such ease you'd think she was dancing. It didn't last long though, She lost her balance and took a strong punch to the chest. One of her attackers grabbed a knife on the ground and pierced her side with it's long blade. Blood ran like a river down her shirt turning the navy blue into a sleek black.
