CHAPTER TEN: DINNER

jay gaped at the sight. Eight suitcases that were easily the size of Jayla, had appeared beside the woman. She wasn't sure but she didn't remember seeing those suitcases there before. Mathelda let out a ringing laugh.

“ don't worry child, you'll not be carrying these for me. All though it might be good for your strength training.” she waited till jay was beside her. “I’m a witch, remember.” she winked.

Blue and green flames appeared at her fingertips, dancing as if there was a breeze. Mathelda rubbed the fire against each suitcase and mumbled a word in a different language. Jayla always expected there to be a burn mark on them, but there never was.

The luggage jumped high in the air, an eyeball blinked open on there leather sides. One by one they took off, shooting up the stairs, just barley missing the Blackwells, who were mounting the stairs. Some flew straight up and out windows and some when down the corridors that were spaced out along the walls. Window's and doors, even secret passage ways opened axiomatically for them to pass. Only Three of the suitcases stayed with them, obediently waiting at Mathelda's side like pets. Keoin lead them down a stone corridor, lit by liquid lightening. Mathelda and Keoin were carrying on there whispered conversation from before, Jayla kept hearing her name and Mathelda would glance back every so often. Jayla tried to ignore them by studying the flying suitcases that glided along beside her. It was no use, she was to paranoid.

Finally they reached the end of the hall and jay thought Mathelda would open the door to her left but instead she placed her palms flat against the stone wall.

“ you must give me the names of the warlocks who enchanted this place. They were smart enough to put in a tower sealed from this clan. I do wonder what secrets they have held in this tower for so many centuries.”

“ I’ve always wondered why i could never find the door to this tower. I just thought i was somewhere i would never expect.” Keoin almost spoke to himself. “ i guess i know why now.” he chuckled.

Shimmering vine like objects burst out from Mathelda's hands, curling into the cracks between he stones. The wall shuttered than the bricks started to move. A small gap no bigger than jay's head appeared in the centre of the wall and started to grow outward. The vines were moving the bricks out of their way. As the vines rearranged the walls, dust fell in piles on the floor and sounds of scrapping stone filled the air. Soon an archway was in front of them like it had been there for years. Behind the archway was a marble staircase that looked to lead up to the heavens.

“magic is a fascinating thing, isn't is jay?” Keoin marvelled.

“ umm ... how does she do it?” jay asked quietly.

Mathelda brushed her fingers over the cracking edges of the arch. “ warlocks and witches are similar to you and your clan in one way. Where you have a second set of veins filled with electricity my people have magic running through those lines. We both wield the energies around us.” Mathelda explained, flashing a sly grin at jay.
