The first thing I heard was beeping. A steady beeping. I slowly blinked and tried to open my eyes but I couldn't see much other than white. Was this it? Was I dead? I pushed myself up as much as I could and blinked again as my vision started to clear. I was in an all-white room, and there were machines surrounding the bed I was in. Tubes were hooked up from my arms to some of these machines. The door opened and I turned to see a woman in light blue scrubs walk in.
"Glad to see you're awake, Amelia." The woman said. She had short brown hair and a thin face with warm brown eyes. "I'm Marie, your nurse."
I opened my mouth to say something in return, but my voiced simply croaked from lack of hydration and the fact that I hadn't spoken for... Well I didn't know how long I have been here.
"Oh! I'm so sorry. You must be parched." Marie ran to another room and came back with a glass of water. She handed it to me and I couldn't help put gulp it down graciously, letting the cool liquid soothe my hoarse throat. Once my throat seemed normal, I started asking questions. I had too many running through my head.
"Where am I? How did I get here?" At that moment, the door opened to reveal a man, who had a white coat on and a clipboard. His short brown hair was fading to grey, and his light blue eyes adjusted to the bright lights in the room.
"Hello Amelia. I'm Dr. Ryan." He said after he closed the door. He stepped closer to me and pulled up a chair next to my bed. "Do you know why you're here?" He asked. I pondered for a moment, but then shook my head.
"You were in an accident. From what I've been told, you were crossing the street and a car hit you." I took in what he said, but was still immensely confused. I couldn't remember an accident.
"I'm sorry doctor, but I can't seem to remember the accident..." The doctor simply shook his head.
"No, no. It's fine. It's normal for patients to not remember their accident right after they wake up. I'm just going to ask you a few questions and my only request is that you answer them to the best of your ability." I sat up straighter as Dr. Ryan began to ask me questions.
"Your full name."
"Amelia Grace Parker." I answered immediately. Although Dr. Ryan had a monotone expression on his face, the corners of his mouth were turned up just enough that I could tell I had gotten it right. He scribbled on his clipboard.
"Your age."
"Seventeen." Again, his facial expression remained the same. More scribbling.
"What grade are you in?"
"I'm a senior." I felt more and more confident as I continued to answer questions correctly.
"Do you have any siblings." This time, I hesistated.
"Not that I can recall, no." Dr. Ryan's expression turned completely blank as he wrote on his clipboard.
"What are your parents' names?" Again, I couldn't remember. My heart beat picked up. Why can't I remember my parents? What is wrong with me?
"Uh- can we, ummm, can I have the next question, please?" I spoke with a shaky voice.
"Sure. What is the name of your high school?" Again, nothing. I simply couldn't remember anything.
"I- I don't know. I can't remember." I sucked in a cold breath. "Is there something wrong with me? Why can't I remember anything?" I cried out.
"Amelia, nothing is wrong with you. You simply can't remember. Just try your best. I only have a few more questions."

After the series of questions, Dr. Ryan left the room. I was so frustrated with myself. Why couldn't I remember? Dr. Ryan came back in the room with four people, a man and a woman and two boys. The man had dark brown hair with scatters of grey. He had grey eyes and a strong jawline. His shoulders were broad and the rest of his body seemed pretty fit from the looks of it. He stood at what looked like about six feet. He was dressed in blue jeans and grey sweatshirt and he had a five o'clock shadow lining his jaw. His eyes were droopy from what I could only assume was tiredness.
The woman stood next to the man. She was on the shorter side, maybe only 5'4". Her short light brown hair hung around her shoulders and her blue eyes were rimmed with unshed tears. She had high cheek bones and a soft face. Her lips were bent in a pout, for reasons I had no idea of. Her short frame was only accentuated by her petite size, and she had on a pair of yoga pants and a sweatshirt as well.
To the woman's right stood two boys, one significantly bigger and older than the other. One looked about my age, with brown hair the color of milk chocolate about two inches long. He had tan skin from being out in the sun and green eyes. He had a strong jawline, just like the man, and he was built in a similar way but was slightly taller. And his muscles were more defined, which only made me wonder how often he worked out.
The younger boy had light brown hair and icy blue eyes. He was skinny and lean, unlike the older boy standing next to him. This younger boy only came up to the older boy's chest, Making him only a little over five feet tall. His face still held traces of baby fat and paired against his lanky form, gave him the appearance of a thirteen year old.
"Hi sweetie." The woman cooed as she stepped forward. I couldn't help but feel bad when I not only showed no sign of affection back, but shrunk away from her. The woman's face turned to shock and she stepped back and squeezed the man's arm, who in turn placed his arm around the woman and pulled her in close to him. Okay, so they must be married and the boys are their kids. But who are they and why are they here to see me? Dr. Ryan must have been a mind reader, because he stepped forward and cleared his throat.
"Amelia, these are your parents, James and Sarah. And these are your brothers, Sean and Luke." So this is my family. He seemed to be going down the line so I decided to associate Sean with the older boy and Luke as the younger one.
"I'll leave you all to talk." Dr. Ryan left the room and they stepped forward towards the bed. Luke immediately spoke up.
"So you really don't remember us." His eyes widened and Sean punched his shoulder.
"C'mon man, don't ask her that." Sean's green eyes bore into mine, making me wonder how I could ever forget those eyes. They were a brilliant shade of green. I couldn't help but wonder what color my eyes were.
"No, Luke's right. I'm terribly sorry but I have no recollection of who you guys are." I gulped as I felt a lump grow in her throat. Why am I crying? I don't know these people.
"Oh no! Honey don't cry!" Sarah went to reach for me but I shrunk back. Sarah immediately started crying.
"I'm so sorry." I sobbed. "I just don't know- remember you and I- I can't." At the moment, Dr. Ryan stepped back in with a solemn look on his face.
"I'm sorry if I"m interrupting, but I have some bad news regarding Amelia."
