"I will have to warn you, you have this thing where you don't have favorites for a lot of things because you're too indecisive to choose, so it might be hard for me to give concrete answers depending on what you ask." I stared seriously at Amelia.
"Well try your best! You are one out of the five people I can go to right now to help me remember." Amelia sat up straighter on her hospital bed and crossed her legs. She patted the spot on the end of the bed, signaling to me to sit across from her.
"Are you sure?" I looked at the bed skeptically.
"No, I'm just patting the bed because I'm hesitant about you sitting on it." Amelia rolled her eyes and grinned as I started to climb onto her hospital bed. I crossed my legs and pulled my knees up to hug them to my chest.
"Okay, let's start!"
"Favorite color?"
"Mine is blue and yours is green."
"Favorite school subject?"
"I love English and you love Science."
"Worst school subject."
"Well you hate english and I hate math"
"I think I remember hating english."
"I'm not surprised. You REALLY hate english." I looked down and shook my head as I laughed. I could think of countless times that Amelia came to me complaining about English and I would have to help her with the homework of the week or the essay of the month. Not that I minded because it always meant spending time with her. I looked back up and asked her for the next question but she continued to stare at me with a goofy smile on her face. Her eyes came back into focus when she realized I had said something.
"I'm sorry?"
"I asked what the next question was."
"Oh, right." Amelia cheeks reddened. It was adorable. She was adorable.
"Um... Favorite sport?"
"You love watching football and hockey and I like lacrosse as well as football."
"Did I play any sports?"
"You played volleyball, I told you that already." I reminded her.
"Oh right!" She smacked her forehead. "There's just so much I'm trying to take in right now."
"It's okay. Don't apologize."
"Well then, what about you?" She nodded her head in my direction.
"Lacrosse and football. I'm actually captain for both."
"Oh my gosh, no way!" She gushed and I felt the heat rising from my cheeks. Oh god, please tell me I'm not blushing.
"Yeah..." I looked down to hide my blush and my crazy big smile. I felt Amelia's small hand grasp onto mine ever so lightly and I looked back up to see Amelia with a concerned look on her face.
"Jason, what do I look like?" Amelia's eyebrows were creased in what seemed like frustration and determination.
"Do you really want me to tell you? Don't you want to wait to see for yourself?"
"No, I can't wait. After seeing my family, I can't help but wonder." Amelia pleaded and I shook my head mentally. She really didn't know how much of an influence she had on me. I couldn't say no to that face.
"Okay then, you asked. First off, do you know how old Sean is?" I asked.
"Um, no. But he looks like he's around my age."
"That's because you two are twins. Fraternal twins, of course, but you two look really alike. You both have the same green eyes and tan skin, with the same shade of brown hair..." I paused as I tried to figure out how I was going to say the words in my mind, noticing how intrigued Amelia was.
"And you guys look extremely alike. You guys have almost the same face structure, it's incredible." Amelia made a face at me.
"I don't look exactly like him... Do I?" She asked in the way that made it seem she thought what I said was literal.
"No!" I laughed. "You are much more feminine and quite frankly one of the most beautiful girls I have ever seen in my life."
"Really?" was all she managed to sputter. I mentally fist pumped at the fact that I still had the same effect on her as before.
"Actually, you are the most beautiful girl I've ever seen in my life." I don't know what made me say that but it seemed like it was the right thing to say as Amelia blushed and her eyes glimmered.
"You sure know how to compliment a woman. Your girlfriend is lucky." Amelia praised. I scratched the back of my head awkwardly.
"Uh... I don't have a girlfriend."
"What? How?? Oh my god, you're gay, aren't you? Ugh, I should have known. All the hot, nice and respectable guys are gay." Amelia shook her head and I burst out in laughter.
"I'm not gay!" I tried to say seriously but I kept snickering at the fact that she thought I was. "I just-" I stopped. I couldn't tell her that I wanted her. Amelia narrowed her eyes.
"You just... What?" She demanded.
"I just... Uhhh." I raced to find a reasonable excuse to give her. "I, uh, do like a girl, but I- I don't think I would ever have a chance with her?" My voice got higher and I mentally crossed my fingers hoping she would buy it and somehow she did.
"Omigosh! Who is she?" She squealed much to my surprise. You, I thought.
"Uh you probably don't remember her but she goes to our school." Amelia nodded in agreement.
"Right, I forgot I can't even remember who my best friend was... I had one, right? Well, besides you." She shot. I smiled inwardly at how her mind worked. She was definitely different and interesting to say the least but that's why I loved her.
"Yes you do. Her name is Paige." Right then, Amelia's mom opened the door.
"Jason, sweetie, we're leaving now. Would you like a ride home?" She asked, stepping into the room.
"Yes ma'am." I got off of the bed and brushed off my jeans. "I'll come back tomorrow, take it easily Amelia." I thought about kissing her cheek and decided to go with it. I softly pressed my lips to her cheek, very close to her lips. I turned to leave without looking at her but finally snuck a peek as I closed the door behind me. And I was glad I did, because I saw Amelia sitting there with a goofy smile on her face and her hand touching the spot where I had kissed her. And I knew that things were going to be okay.
