As I go around the pack territory I sensed something strange about the surroundings. It feels so empty not even a sign of death was present. Whoever did this, did not kill anyone. The place is filled with ashes no bones nor blood stains. Which only meant one thing, my pack was not dead. I had a chance to bring them back.
I decided to go check on my old house. My father was a very well connected alpha. As the strongest pack, he needs to make alliances for the packs welfare. With those alliances I could retaliate against the attacks that would come my way. As I reached the Alphas house (my house), it was the only part of the territory which wasn't damaged terribly. I cautiously went up the porch steps towards my father's office. My father made a secret passage to be used during attacks like this. I moved this enormous bookshelf off the wall and saw that it was still locked and untouched. Next to it was a safe, not too big nor too small, inside it were the pack documents, bank books and cash. My father trusted me with all the codes that would be necessary when I take over the pack. Knowing the code by heart, I opened the safe and was surprised to see that all of the documents were still here. If the attackers didn't want these then what on earth did they want?
I trudged up the staircase to see if there were any damages made. Then again I was surprised to see that there weren't any damages. Just dents in walls and scratches yet there were no bodies or even blood stains. I made my way to my room and grabbed a backpack under my bed. I started filling it with clothes and toiletries, just enough to let me last until I find one of my father's colleague. I didn't pack as much because I was holding on to the hope that I would get my pack back in this land. I went in the kitchen and grabbed a pack of energy bars and bottles of water. As I headed back my dad's office I passed by the basement door and heard a person cough. I grabbed an umbrella that was lying around the floor and went down the steps to check who the person was.
"Trent!" I exclaimed as I took in the persons features. Trent was one of the strongest pack warrior that my dad appointed to be my bodyguard. Trent wasn't that old, if that's what you were thinking, he's actually the same age as me. Making that one of the reasons why my dad chose him.
"Astrid.." He said a little breathless as he was still recovering from his unconscious state. He then began to sit up. I checked him for any injuries and breathed a sigh of relief as I saw none.
"Trent what happened? Where's my dad?"
"The rogues teamed up with some witches and attacked our pack."
"Why?"
"That I don't know. They must be after our territory. How did you get in here? It's a fiery craze out there."
"No it wasn't. The flames all burned out. It's all ashes out there except for this house. Not even a single soul is out there. And if they wanted our territory wouldn't they want to stay and take place at this moment?"
"You're right. We gotta get out of here then." We made our way out of the basement after he said that.
"Was this place even attacked?" He asked surprised.
"It doesn't seem like it right?" A moment of silence spread between us as we continued to walk around the house.
"So what's the plan?" He asked me as he eyes my backpack.
"Well since my dad made all those alliances I was planning to gather them to help me bring back the pack. So are you in?"
"I wouldn't leave you and you know it." He said as he chuckled lightly.
"You could borrow some of my dads clothes if you want. I'm sure he wouldn't mind."
"Okay."
"Meet me back in my dads office okay?"
"Got it princess." Princess. That endearment he uses to mock me every time. Trent has been my friend ever since I can remember. He was always there for me and I know this sounds cliche but I may have a little crush on him. I know my mate is out there somewhere and I know this feelings would pass so I won't ever tell him how I feel. And just imagine how awkward we would be.
I went back to the kitchen to grab some more food that would feed both Trent and I. After gathering a good amount of food I headed towards my dad's office to wait for Trent. I took out all the files in the safe and placed them safely in my bag. I looked around the office just to keep me occupied as I wait for Trent. A map on my dad's table caught my attention. The map had X marks marking a certain part of the map. As I look closely I realized that it were pack territories. The smaller pack areas were marked X, probably those were the ones attacked. Then our pack territory was marked with an X just like the others but it wasn't what caught my attention. There was a note written in red (probably blood) that was placed near the mark.
Ring around the Rosie's
Pocket full of posies
Ashes, ashes we all fall down...
Look out little one, your dream is about to turn into a nightmare.Reading the note gave me shivers. Did they want me to find this? Just then Trent came in the room panting.
"Astrid, we need to leave right now... I saw rogues walking around the pack house."
Panic filled my senses. I immediately grabbed the note and pulled Trent towards the hidden door. I put in the code and stepped in. Trent pulled back the bookshelf that covered it back to its place. Before I closed the door I sprayed it with a perfume given to me by the white witches as a gift. It's used to mask your scent which is quite handy in times like this. As Trent and I almost closed the door we heard voices inside the house and then we started running deeper into the passage.
We ran and ran just to keep ahead of our enemies. The passage was actually lit by torches, somewhat like the medieval times, and for that I thank my dad. We reached the end in a quick time given our wolf speed. It ended just near where the boundary of our territory and the Amethyst's pack territory.
"Well, let the search begin." I said as we headed towards the other side.
