Chapter 9

Roxie and Sodapop were better now. We decided to meet Cherry in the vacant lot she told us the time and that it was Friday night. I was not sure how I felt about it. But at least that gave Soda, Roxie, and the rest of us can get a little bit more in shape.

Dally is excited that Blaze is in the rumble this time. I think this time we have a lot more people than we did last time. Curly is going to be in the rumble, so unless Curly and Dally gets stuck in the cooler then we should have a lot more people. I don't think Dally will try to get put in the cooler. I mean believe me he would try if he could.

He knows what Blaze would do if he was to be put in the cooler. Blaze is the only person he is scared of at certain times. We all think that it's hilarious. Everyone is looking ready for the rumble. I am feeling a lot better about it. I am even feeling a bit excited about it.

Everyone is exited. We can't wait for Friday. One day, everyone was inside watching T.V. Dally and I was on the roof watching the sunset. I like watching the sunset with Dally. "You know what Ponyboy." Dally said "What."I answered "You remember when Johnny told you to Stay Gold?" He asked "Yeah I remember." I replied
"What poem was he talking about in the letter?" He said back "The poem Nothing Gold Can Stay by Robert Frost." I said "Well, can I hear it?" He asked. I nodded and started the poem:

Nature's first green is gold
Her hardest hue to hold
Her early leafs a flower
But only so an hour
Then leaf subsides to leaf
So Eden sank to grief
So dawn goes down to day
Nothing gold can stay.

"Wow! Now I understand that part of the letter." Dally said "Glad to help." I replied. After that we ate supper then the rest of the gang went home. We stayed up for a while then the three of us went to bed.

The next day was the day before the rumble. I feel like I am in more shape then that time we had a rumble. We were finishing up our workout and a car full of Socs rode up and yelled "Greasers!" I got mad but I could not hit anyone before the rumble so that made me mad. I am not that nervous any more I am a little bit but not that much.

The next day

It is the day of the rumble and I am not nervous at although I am excited about it. I know that we can and will beat those Socs tonight. The rumble starts at 9 tonight which means that I can watch the sunset and get focused.

Me, Two-bit, and Dally we going to town Blaze and Roxie were at the house and Soda,Steve and Darry were working. I don't think Darry is not worried about me as much this time. "So who else here is exited about the rumble tonight?" Two-bit asked. Me and Dally said that we were. We kept saying how we are going to beat the Socs.

I am confident in us. I mean we have a lot more people and we have been working out more. So we will have a great chance. We saw Cherry she pulled over and wished us luck in the rumble. I alwayed liked Cherry ever since the time we met at the movies. I guess I have not relized it before. We were heading back to my house. we all ate dinner then me and Dally went to watch the sunset. "Hey,Dally can I ask you somthing?" I asked "Sure you can Ponyboy. Whats up?" He said back "Well you know that Cherry Valence girl well I was thinking about asking her to be my girlfriend. What do you think?" I said back. He was speechless and was in shock it was pretty funny but managed to keep the laughter inside.

"You really want her to be your girlfriend?"He finally said "At first I was not but now I am." I said "I say go for it but I don't think that this is my place to say. Darry probably should awnser that." Dally said "Alright I will ask Darry but I got to get focused now."I said back. Me and Dally went to where everone was. We all got ready for tonight. We headed to the lot and I could feel the excitment in the air.

Skip Rumble

The rumble was awesome we beat those Socs. I thought that they were going to beat us but we came back. We were all pretty beaten up pretty badly. It is nothing bad though. Once we beat them we went back to our house.

We have more festive time then last time we had a rumble. The next day me, Dally, Two-bit, and Blaze went for a walk. Roxie got a job at the DX with Soda and Steve. When we were in town we saw Cherry. She called me over there. Dally and them were close by just in case.

"Ponyboy there is something that I have to tell you." Cherry said she sound nervous "What is it." I said back worried of what it was. "Well, I like you." She said. I suddenly saw Dally and them looked over to were Cherry and I.

"Yeah I know you said that before that rumble and Johnny was dying in the hospital." I responded  "No I mean that I like you like you." She said happily "I feel the same way." I said with almost the same happiness as she did.

"Cherry will you be my girlfriend?" I said smiling  "Yes I will Ponyboy I will." She said smiling also. Dally, Two-bit, and Blaze ran over to us so excited. Just as we were celebrating Darry came up. "Hey Darry what's up." I said

"Nothing just came to get some lumber and get lunch what's up with y'all." Darry said back "Ponyboy and Cherry are dating." Two-bit said with a celebration tone "Ponyboy can I talk to you?" He asked with upset tone "Sure." I said kind of scared "Ponyboy, are you sure that you like Cherry?"He sounded concern and not angry at all.

"Yeah I am sure about it." I said "Very well I trust you and if you are sure then I believe in you." "Thanks Darry." We hugged then Darry left and Dally, Two-bit, Blaze ,and I went to the DX.
