Chapter Two: The Grey Mile 8/13/2013

I began to walk out of the crowded area of party- goers, into the dark abyss of an alleyway. I loved the nightlife, it always created a more uplifted type of energy within me. I just couldn't explain it. The rave was rather crowded tonight, as it was every Saturday. Hell, every weekend, in fact! But it was almost a quarter to two O'clock in the morning, and I needed rest.

I took a few steps outside, about ten feet or so from the overly- populated club. The weather outdoors was unexpectedly icky, wet and humid- like. Well, there goes half an hour's worth of straightening my blonde waves. Oh well, I didn't honestly give a fuck.

I never gave a fuck.

My car was only a couple blocks away, the parking lots near the club were always packed and full. I didn't mind the short walk, it actually gave me time to clear my thoughts. It was calming; peaceful.

The pavement below my feet were slick, allowing me an easier way to slip and fall on my ass. I wasn't the one for being a mindless klutz, either. I was usually so balanced, always aware of my surroundings.

I continued my steadied walking, my pace smooth and steady. After a few more steps, I began to notice the low sounding of footsteps. These footsteps did not belong to me, they were much too heavy and loud.

Probably a drunk.

I shrugged my shoulders, allowing the thought to brush off of my shoulders. People are always finding a way to get drunk, being reckless and stupid. But not me, I couldn't afford to allow my guard to lower like that. I just couldn't trust people.

Newer thoughts of my soft bedding and comfortable pajamas appeared within my clouded mind, I was so ready to hit the sheets and sleep. I was exhausted from dancing the night away.

But those wonderful thoughts were deleted immediately, as the sound of footsteps increased. This was no drunken moron, this person was most likely sober. Most likely following me.

I didn't dare to turn my back, staring back at the unknown human being following my path. It would be way too awkward if I just randomly accused them of the deed. Whatever, who cares? I am perfectly capable of defending myself; always on my own in this world.

I was almost to my car, or so I thought. I was a bit farther than I had thought, no matter. It was no problem at all for me. I quickened my pace a bit, testing my follower. And they quickly responded.

Well, if you wanna play, let's play. Let's see how quick you can keep up, stranger.

My walking swiftly changed into a form of speed walking, almost a jog. Oh, but this bastard behind me just wouldn't allow this.

I was seconds away from turning around, confronting the mysterious person. I didn't know who the fuck they were, or what the hell they desired from me. But I do have a sickening feeling that it's nothing good.

Nothing good at all.

“ You know, this will do nothing at all. You can't ignore me, Serename. You know this, so stop.”
